Principal's Message

Dear Community

The last few weeks has seen winter hit us all of a sudden. On the upside, our new roof has held up well with the recent downpours of rain, which is a nice change from the past few years when we have seen buckets dotted around our hallway.

The downside though is that we are having high numbers of staff and students coming down with all sorts of colds, flus and tummy bugs. It is worth reminding everyone that, in this new-COVID world, it is extra important to adhere to the following:

  • Washing hands regularly and thoroughly
  • Covering our mouths and noses with our arms when we cough or sneeze
  • and, most importantly, staying home when we are sick.

The wintery weather did not deter our staff and students from engaging in an impromptu netball game on Wednesday afternoon. Our staff were definitely enthusiastic and had to work hard to compete with our students, who have improved significantly since last year's showdown. Most importantly, an awesome afternoon was had by all!!

Below are a few pictures. Make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see a wider variety of pictures from the things we get up to here at Scarborough PS!

School Board

We would like to welcome our new staff representative, Ms Terez Mukics, to our Board. Terez has worked across our junior primary area for several years now and has enthused us all with her positive energy and passion for health and well being. Welcome Terez, you are a very welcome addition.

Our next meeting is coming up soon, on Wednesday 16 June at 6pm. At the meeting we will be hearing updates on the proposed upgrade for Scarborough PS and our Public School Review that is coming up in Term 3.

Visitors are always welcome to come along, listen in and see what the School Board is all about. If you are interested please rsvp to the front office.

As always, if you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to call or email me on Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au

2021 Book Fair News

The 2021 Book Fair is now finished. I would like to say THANK YOU to our fabulous Year 6 volunteers who came to school early and left school late to help me run the fair. I think everyone will agree they did a great job.

This year's Book Fair was another great success. Due to the generosity of the community, the school library has received $940.00 worth of new resources for our students to read, learn and enjoy.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this year’s Book Fair, I know our students will get great enjoyment from the new resources that will support their learning journey.

P&C News

Hello SPS families

How about that – winter has officially begun. We hope you stay warm and dry this season. If all this inside time is getting a bit boring, why not join the P&C! The P&C is a fundraising body and we will always have something fun to do for you! From meetings, to fundraisers, to active volunteering within our canteen, uniform shop or as school banking rep. If this sounds exciting to you, then please join us at the next meeting on Monday 28 June at 6.30pm on the school library.

School Banking Representative

The P&C is seeking a new volunteer to take on the role of the School Banking Representative. This service has been paused in line with the COVID Guidelines; however, we are allowed to commence accepting deposits at the school again.

School Banking is a valuable tool for children to learn about money, banking and saving. Children will learn to set goals, find ways to make money (chores etc), earn rewards and they can track their progress via an app.

As Rep you will have to invest about an hour a week during the school term. Your main duties are accepting deposits at school (usually one morning a week before school starts) and depositing these at the Bank.

If this interests you, please email us for more information.

Canteen is looking for volunteers

Canteen is looking for more volunteers. Our school is growing and we simply need extra hands to make canteen a success. It’s only a few hours on a Friday morning and your child gets a FREE meal deal!

E-mail us at the P&C or speak to Laura on Fridays in the canteen if you are keen to help.

We like to remind all Kindy group 2 parents and caregivers that you can also order lunch from Canteen every Friday! Don’t bother making yet another lunch, order before Friday 8.30am via Quickcliq.com.au and we will deliver it your child’s classroom!

Please also note that all canteen orders need to be placed via QuickCliq prior to 8.30am on Friday. Cash is not accepted.

Uniform Shop is looking for volunteers

The Uniform Shop is fully stocked and open on Wednesday mornings from 8.45am-9.15am. Again, with the growth of our school, the Uniform Shop is looking for volunteers to help with the smooth running of the shop. Please contact Sarah if you can lend a hand.

To order any uniform items, please download the form from our school website at http://scarboroughps.wa.edu.au/p-c/uniform-shop/.  Emailed orders will be delivered to your child’s classroom.

Containers for Change

We will continue to fundraise through the Containers for Change initiative. The Containers for Change bins can be found at the school entry at Hinderwell Street near the Room 9 Heritage Building. Keep on bringing those empty cans and bottles to support the P&C!

Alternatively, if you wish to donate at a refund point of your choosing you can quote our Scheme ID C10240685. If you prefer to attend a Reverse Vending Machine location please use the barcode at the top of the P&C news. This may be your preference if you have a larger donation and be rest assured that the money goes back to the P&C.

Next Meeting

Our next General Meeting will be held on Monday 28 June at 6.30pm in the school library.
