The Importance Of Regular Attendance

Regular attendance at school is fundamental to student learning. Students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve educational success, and increase their career and life options.

Student attendance has been identified as an important aspect of a student’s wellbeing. Schools therefore play a vital role in the social and emotional development of children. Regular attendance enables students to develop a sense of belonging to a peer group and build important coping and friendship skills. This helps develop a positive self-image and a confidence that sees children less likely to engage in anti-social behaviour.

Communities benefit as well from students who regularly attend school and are achieving. These benefits include greater student safety, community wellbeing, and a sense of connectedness for all.

Preschool programs are a wonderful place to begin establishing positive patterns and culture of attendance and we encourage you to make the most of this important learning phase.

Ways you can help:

·         talk about the importance of good attendance and punctuality with your child from an early age

·         talk to your child about preschool/school and what they like - what they did - who their friends are - any difficulties

·         try to arrange appointments and outings after preschool/school hours, at weekends or during school holidays. This will help to prevent disruption to your child’s education

·         chat with staff about any difficulties or problems that may arise sooner rather than later as we often have a range of strategies which can help.

1 or 2 days a week doesn’t seem like much however……

Preschool - Amanda Rishworth Community Art Exhibition

Our preschool exhibited in the Amanda Rishworth Art exhibition at the Arts Theatre in Port Noarlunga. The theme was “My Place in the World”. We explored our local natural world and expressed our learnings through the medium of art.

The children created observational drawings of the lifecycle of Monarch butterflies.  Observing the monarch butterflies they made symmetrical paintings of their wings, created clay impression pieces using shells and collected natural objects which they painted and made into a mobile.

It was lovely to see so many families attend the event. The children were very proud showing their families their exhibited art. Each child was presented with a certificate by Amanda Rishworth.

Reconciliation Week

On Tuesday 1 June 2021, our year 4/5 class were also lucky enough to go on an excursion to the Neporendi Aboriginal Forum in Old Reynella during Reconciliation Week. Students enjoyed participating in weaving, clay, yoga and rock art workshops, as well as observing stalls from community service providers. There was also a free sausage sizzle for everyone who attended. The students and teachers found this excursion educational, engaging and very well organised.

On Wednesday 2 June 2021 we held a Reconciliation Week breakfast for students and families. Students from rooms 1, 2, 6 and 11 performed songs that they had learnt in Kaurna and all classes displayed work that they had been doing. Thank you to everyone who attended the breakfast. It was a wonderful morning!
