STUDENT LEADERSHIP ROLES

SENIOR LEADERS FOR 2021

Each year our senior students apply and present speeches about the values they role model, past leadership experience, and the qualities they bring, and can build upon, as a Senior Leader.

As year 6 and 7 will be heading off to High School at the end of 2021, students from both year levels were given the opportunity to try out for these roles. Being interviewed by teachers in front of peers is a daunting task and credit goes to every single one of our students who tried out.

Once students have presented, a democratic process is used by peers to vote for students who they believe will best represent them and lead in a number of different ways across the school. With teacher and leadership oversight a final section of students are chosen to represent the year level.

We congratulate the following eight Year 6 Students:

  •  Vanessa L, Harry B-T, Macy P, Ashlyn H, Christian H, Peter M, Charlie P and Bianca W

With too close a call to separate two students for our Year 7 positions this year we congratulate nine Year 7 Senior Leaders:

  • Alex King, Lilah Curnow, Warisat Hossain, Evan Yang, Trishaa Rao, Abbi Rankine, Jessica Quach, Alisha Bergineti & Amber Pitfield.

These leaders have already been hard at work feeding back and planning our whole-school student focused curriculum opportunities. They narrowed down a summary of student choices, worked out democratic processes to ensure fair selections and have helped to narrow down potential names for our student driven activity time. They’re already realising the complex challenges of implementing a new initiative and the planning that needs to occur to ensure it happens well. What an active and involved way to begin their leadership roles.

A huge congratulations to all of our Senior Leaders. We look forward to helping you to build your leadership skills.

STUDENT VOICE FEEDBACK

Our Student Leaders at WLSS had a meeting with Mrs Press, Ms Sheridan, Ms Otte and Ms Pojer in relation to the collation and presentation of student voice feedback on what passions students would like to pursue at school. The main focus is for students and teachers to have

‘A time to play, explore, create and practise special interests together.’

AUTISM AWARENESS

EVERYONE BELONGS

As an inclusive school we look to support the individual needs of all of our students.

Please find attached an article in which Evie Jennings , a year 4 student, shares a video with her teachers and classmates to raise awareness of Autism.

It's Autism Awareness Day April 2nd - let's celebrate these differences and look to teach understanding of the different ways this impacts on individuals.

Well done Evie for advocating and raising awareness of this. Please click on the link below.

THE DARK GREEN PLANE

“Wow!” said Ella as she saw an awesome big plane in her big backyard. It is because Ella dad is a pilot, it was his. It looked awesome. The plane was big and metal. It has the number 39 painted on it in dull white paint. A clear duty roof covered the back half the plane. There was a V shaped tail at the back of the plane. It was a very dark green colour all over.

‘’Woof!’’ Ella and her dad heard from the plane. It was Scruffy their pet dog. Scruffy is a white dog with some brown, his hair is long and scruffy. Scruffy the dog was on one of the front black seats. Ella jumped in to get her dog Scruffy out.

As Ella got in the plane Scruffy pressed a shiny orange button. The plane started making rumbling noises. Then it lifted higher and higher. It got as high as the clouds, then started flying forwards. She could not see land now all she could see was the clear blue ocean. Scruffy was barking.

After a while, the plane went over a cloud then under a cloud. It just kept going and going, up and down. Ella thought it was never going to stop and she would never touch land again. It had been flying for about 10 minutes but it felt like half an hour.

Ella saw a shiny black handled leaver she pulled it really hard to see what would happen. The plane turned around and went even faster. Ella thought it was taking her home and she really hopes it was.

Ella was zooming though the sky. Now she could see her big black house in front of her.  She was so happy that she made it back home. The plane landed her and Scruffy got out. She felt so relieved to be home.

THE MYSTERIOUS PLANE ADVENTURE

“Crash!” went the garage door as it opened. Emma, the young little girl ran up to her dad for a hug goodbye. As her dad left the garage she spotted a big dark green vehicle. It had the number 39 painted on the sides of it. She didn’t know what it was.

“Woof woof,” she heard. Cooper, Emma’s brown fluffy dog, had jumped into the plane.

“No Cooper get out,” Emma said as she jumped into the plane after Cooper.

Coopers paw touched a green button. All of a sudden Emma heard, “Broom broom.” The plane started rumbling and suddenly the plane started moving and burst out the garage.

Now all Emma could hear was her mum screaming, “Emma!”

Emma suddenly realized it was moving on its own. It seemed to be automatic. Emma’s face was white in shock. Now she was lost in the middle of nowhere. Then she saw something in the distance. It was a magical island. There were creatures on it known a Pokémon.

The plane landed on the island. Cooper was exited and now so was Emma. “Pikachu,” they heard as they walked around.

“What was that?” Emma asked.

They saw a creature with brown on its ears and an electric shock shaped tail. “Pikachu!” said the creature.

Is that your name?” Emma asked.

“Pika pika,” the creature responded.

“I reckon that’s a yes,” Emma said to Cooper

Suddenly another Pokémon appeared. “I am Mewtwo, I rule this island,” it said. Then Mewtwo noticed Emma and went crazy. Crashing stuff, using his lazer beam and screaming, “HUMAN!” Then Pikachu used his electric powers to defeat Mewtwo.

Then Emma saw a small button that said, ‘’HOME.’’ She pressed it and the plane teleported back into the garage. She was a little sad she had left the island but exited too because it was her birthday!
