Dear Parents and Carers
This year, Karen Cunningham, our long standing School Council Chairperson is resigning after countless years of service to the school. The work, guidance and effort she has made to support us in making this school the best it can be cannot be spoken of lightly.
Thank you Mrs Cunningham.
Due to this resignation, we have a position on the School Council that has become vacant and it is necessary that I advertise this position, asking for nominations from the school community.
I know that a lot of people think about getting involved but then feel as if they do not have the time or know exactly what the Council does. To help you decide, I would like to explain some of the Council responsibilities.
The Council meets twice a term, usually in week 4 and 8, however, these are set in negotiation with the P & C so as to have them on the same night.
We meet at 6.00pm till 7.30pm, in the school staff room and have an agenda that is discussed with the Principal and set by the School Council Chair, a week before the meeting.

evaluating the school’s performance in achieving those objectives, priorities and directions;

take part in the selection of, but not the appointment of, the school Principal or any other member of the teaching staff if prior approval is given by the Regional Executive Director.

the items determined by the Principal to be supplied by a student for the student’s personal use in the school’s educational program;
an agreement or arrangement for advertising or sponsorship in relation to a government school.
Determine:
in consultation with students, their parents and staff of the school, a dress code for students when they are attending or representing the school.
Provide advice to the Principal of the school:
on a general policy concerning the use in school activities of prayers, songs and material based on religious, spiritual or moral values being used in a school activity as part of religious education;
Promote:
the school in the community.
A school’s Funding Agreement (with Schedules) is noted by the school council/board chair.
The current School Council is a strong group of like-minded people, who are committed to the improvement of Rawlinson Primary School.
I would like to ask that you consider joining us to represent the Parents, Carers and students of Rawlinson Primary School by completing the nomination form and returning it to school.
