COVID-19 Update

Currently, Queanbeyan-Palerang area is still in some form of regional lockdown and it's schools are still carrying on with Learning from home arrangements. We are continuing with the Home Learning Plan that we began at the beginning of lockdown. We have created a new package of learning that will go home at the beginning of next week.

The Kindergarten and Year 1 package will contain a fortnights worth of learning. This package will go home with our students when they return to school next week. This will sit at home and be used, in the event we need to go non-operational for any purpose moving forward.

The Year 2 - Year 6 package will contain 3 weeks worth of work. The work for the third week of Home Learning, prior to returning and a further 2 weeks of work that will sit at home and be used in the event of further non-operational status moving forward.

When we do return to learning, we will be operating under level 3 plus, and this will involve the following:

  • All staff and students that experience the mildest of COVID symptoms, should remain at home until symptom free and the returning of a negative covid test result.
  • Face masks are required for staff at school in all school settings, including the playground.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to wear masks at school. The school has some student sized masks for those students that would like to wear them.
  • Staff will be fully vaccinated.
  • QR code sign-in processes are expected of all staff.
  • Non-essential visitors are not permitted in schools.
  • Parents should maintain physical distancing when gathering outside of the school gate.
  • Parents that do need to enter the school, should follow mask-wearing requirements and sign in using the Service NSW QR code. However, we encourage all parents to contact the school via, phone calls and email.
  • Many school programs such as SRE and excursions will be placed on hold for the time being.
  • Our OOSH service will continue to operate morning and afternoon for those parents that require before and after school care.
  • Assemblies can only be held without visitors.
  • Modification of school based programs to meet Covid requirements.

We hope that conditions continue to improve daily and that we return to a more normal daily program.

Any information that is released will be forwarded to our community though our regular communication channels.

Before and After School Care

Our partners of 'Big Childcare' are continuing to operate their service. It is essential that you book, so they can staff the service as required. We also recommend accessing the Governments Child Card Subsidy (CCS) to help reduce the cost of care.

Science Fair

The Science Fair that we postponed during Term 3 will now be held on Wednesday 3 November. This event will be modified to meet with Covid Operating Guidelines. Students that still have their project are invited to bring in their work and share it with their classmates on this day. We will share images and project winners via Social Media afterwards.

Halloween - Mufti - Dress Up Day

We have missed out on so much!! We will hold our Halloween - Mufti - Dress Up Day on Friday 29 October. This is the end of the first week we have all students back at school. Students are invited to dress up in Halloween costumes, mufti outfits or any other fun costume of their choice. The day will be a fun way to end the week at school. Whilst we are not able to do our regular fun activities for Halloween, we are planning on doing some exciting school based learning activities to make things fun after so much time away from school.

Kinder Orientation

Kindergarten Orientation has had to be postponed. We will need to see how the term progresses to determine when we are able to invite our Preschool friends up to school. We are still accepting online enrollments and hope to have orientation as soon as it is safe to do so.

Camp Berry - Week 10

Our Camp was postponed until week 9 of this term. We are hopeful that we can still operate, but will monitor conditions as we get a little closer. We are planning on making a final camp decision mid-term. Any decisions will then be shared with the community.

Updated School Studio

Updated School Studio

Thanks to an amazing grant we received recently for Innovation. We have been able to update our School Studio. The studio now has a large 'Green Screen', which will be able to provide a variety of amazing movie magic options for filming.

We now have proper adjustable lighting. The lighting will not only provide considerable light to the background, but also amazing light from the front.

We now have our own school video camera, complete with autocue. This will mean that students, will begin to take over the back of set production. We will include camera operators, lighting technicians, and sound engineers.

Finally, we also were able to include a new Apple Macbook Pro with Final Cut Pro X editing software. This now also mean that students will begin to take over the editing and construction of the school projects.

Our goal is that in the next 12 months, students will take over 95% of the media creation at school, and that staff will be more in a support role. Exciting times ahead, when we can begin to see what our amazing students can and will produce.
