Welcome!

A huge WELCOME to all our families joining us for Kindergarten 2022!

Due to COVID-19 Balmain Public School has COVID-safe measures in place for orientation and transition programs. We follow the current health advice and restrictions provided by NSW Health and the Department of Education.

Kindy Kapers has been designed to keep us connected, as well as to keep you up-to-date with communications relating to anything and everything Kindergarten 2022 at Balmain Public School.

If you're not already following us on Instagram, see ? link - during the school term, we aim to post on a daily basis, as well as include stories, where we share moments of the day (and these vanish after 24 hours). Some of our stories are saved as highlights...go and check it out!

It is important for our Kindergarten 2022 students to be enrolled, in order to keep abreast of important information and programs.

Out of School Hours Care (OOSH)

Eaton Street Centre is the before/after school care and vacation care provider for Balmain Public School. They provide before school care from 7-8:30am and after school care from 3-6pm.

If you require care in 2022, please click here on My Family Lounge to enrol and make a care request.  

Uniform Stall

There will be a uniform stall in the school playground on the day of your child's transition. It will be available between 9:15am - 9:45am. There will be a sample rack to assist you with sizing. 



Dates for your Diary

Monday 22 November 2021 - Kindergarten Online Information Session

Our Kindergarten Online Information Session will take place on Monday 22 November 2021 at 12:30pm. This information session is for parents and carers and will take place via the Zoom platform.

You will receive further information separately, via SkoolBag.

Tuesday 23rd-Friday 26 November 2021 - Transition to School Program

The Kindergarten Transition Program will be held between Tuesday 23rd - Friday 26 November 2021. Your child will be invited to attend one session ONLY during this week. You will soon receive a link to book your transition day.

On the day of your child's transition session, you will be met at the Gladstone Park gate for check-in procedures. This session will involve the following:

9:15am - 9:45am  - Uniform Stall (child & parent/carer)

9:45am - 10:00am - Teddy Bear's Picnic (child & parent/carer)

10:00 - 10:30am - In-class transition program (children only)

10:30am - Pick up your child from the Gladstone Park gate

As per NSW Health guidelines, strictly one parent or carer per Kindergarten child is allowed onto the school site for transition. The adult MUST be fully vaccinated.

Kindergarten Taster Week: Tues 1- Fri 4 February 2022

Your child will be attending one full day of school during the Kindergarten Taster Week. You will be notified of your attendance day via the SkoolBag app as well as email. Please ensure you have this app downloaded (instructions earlier in this issue of Kindy Kapers) as it is the school's main form of communication. 


The entire Kindergarten cohort will start school together on Monday 7 February 2022. 

Tuesday 1 February 2022 - Back to School for Years 1-6

Monday 7 February 2022 - Kindergarten formally commence school!

Start time: 9:30am (only for this day)

Who is Pasi Sahlberg?

Pasi Sahlberg is a Finnish educator who has worked as a schoolteacher, teacher-educator, researcher, and policy advisor in Finland and has studied education systems and advised education leaders around the world. He has written and spoken widely about teaching and learning in school, teachers' work and school improvement, educational change, international education issues, and the future of schools. His book “Finnish Lessons: What Can the World Learn from Educational Change in Finland” won the 2013 Grawemeyer Award for an idea that has potential to change the world. He is also a recipient of the 2012 Education Award in Finland, the 2014 Robert Owen Award in Scotland, the 2016 Lego Prize, and Rockefeller Foundation's Bellagio Resident Fellowship in 2017. He is a former senior education specialist at the World Bank (in Washington, DC), a lead education expert at the European Training Foundation (in Torino, Italy), a director general at the Finland’s Ministry of Education (CIMO), and a visiting Professor of Practice at Harvard University. He is a member of several international organisations, editorial boards, and advisory boards. His most recent book (co-authored with William Doyle) is "Let the Children Play: How more play will save our schools and help children thrive" (Oxford University Press, 2019) and forthcoming books "Finnish Lessons 3.0: What Can the World Learn from Educational Change in Finland” (Teachers College Press, 2021) and "In Teachers We Trust: The Finnish way to world-class schools" (Norton, 2021 with Tim Walker). He is Professor of Education Policy and Deputy Director of the Gonski Institute at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
