Principal's Report

Dear parents/carers,

Thank you for another splendid term. I am sure with the temperatures plummeting down, we are all looking forward to a break. At the end of this term, you should receive your child's semester report. Please go through the report, especially paying attention to the future directions provided in the report. If you can spend 20-30 minutes each day practicing times tables or reading a book, it will go a long way in improving your child's learning outcomes. Parents and carers play an integral part in a child's education and good work ethics need to be instilled early on for long term benefits. When we return in term 3, please ensure that your child comes to school:

  • on time, everyday
  • after a good night's rest
  • in full school uniform looking neat and tidy
  • with a nutritious lunchbox

The above may seem trivial, however simple rules and discipline play an important role in helping your child develop positive relationship with school and will help him/her build life long healthy habits.

As we end this term, I would like to say goodbye to Mr Luke Waters who is one of our many Student Learning Support Officers, who is moving to the coast for a sea change. We wish him the very best. I would like to welcome Ms Nivek Aoun  our new Community Hub coordinator.

Finally, I thank all teachers for their hard work this term and wish everyone a warm and restful break.

Principal

Multicultural Public Speaking Finals

On the 3rd of June, Marsden Road Public School hosted the Multicultural Public Speaking Local Finals. Schools within the South Western Sydney Region visited to compete and share their insightful speeches.

This competition allowed primary school students to explore ideas of multiculturalism in Australia, as well as giving students a place to practise their public speaking skills and improve their confidence. Students had to present an impromptu speech in addition to their prepared speech.

Lakshana, Zvonimir, Angelina. M, and Lara. J represented our school and presented commendable speeches.

Debating

Congratulations to our debating team for winning rounds 1 and 2 of the Premier’s Debating Challenge! Round 1 was against Ashcroft Public School, and the topic was ‘That students should have a 3 day weekend’. Round 2 was against Mount Pritchard East Public School, and the topic was ‘That parents should only let their kids have screen time  two days a week’.

For both debates, we were the negative team. It was a great experience to compete against these schools as we not only had an awesome time, but we learnt a lot and received great feedback to help us improve. It was wonderful to see our debating team rising to the challenge and working and growing as a team. They put in a lot of effort into preparing and presenting carefully crafted arguments and rebuttals. We are so proud of them. Well done!

Kindy farm excursion

This term Kindergarten went on their first ever school excursion. The students and teachers had a fabulous day at Calmsley Hill Farm. We got to milk a cow and pat some baby farm animals. We also watched a wonderful display of shearing and got to take home our very own piece of wool. It was an exciting day. We love excursions and can’t wait to go on our next one.

Stage 2 Excursion - Science Space Centre

This term Stage 2 had their first excursion. They visited the Science Space Centre in Wollongong. The students had a blast interacting with exhibits, watching a bubbleology show, building a STEM project and visiting a planetarium. It was a great day for fun and learning.

Stage 3 excursion to Australian Botanic Gardens

This term, Stage 3 students visited the Mount Annan Botanic Gardens. Students were given the opportunity to explore the various biomes within the gardens, and learn how the flora and fauna adapt to these conditions. We had perfect weather and everyone enjoyed their day.

Stage 1 bug incursion

Last Thursday Stage 1 had their first incursion. Jacqui and Marisa from Travel Bugs brought along a variety of minibeasts to show us. We enjoyed learning about insects that can be found in different parts of Australia. The Goliath Stick Insect was larger than some of our hands. We can’t wait to learn more about minibeasts next term!
