Term 4 Week 5: Monday 1st November 2021

Principal's Message

Last Thursday evening, Mrs Mizzi and I had the pleasure of hosting a zoom for our Kinder 2022 families. It was great to be able to welcome them to MIPS even though it was online. We were able to go over many of the points of information they require in preparation for the start of school. It was wonderful to see the new Kindies with their MIPS t-shirts on. They looked so proud and ready for school. Obviously we have not been able to implement our usual comprehensive orientation programme but we are taking steps to do what we can to make them feel welcome.

Our students continue to love being back at school with their friends. Some are struggling to get back into some of the routines of school life as are some of the folks.

Thank you for supporting the end of day dismissal procedures we have implemented. The level of cooperation from our families has been exemplary. I am hearing from some families that the earlier dismissal is a bit of a problem because they have made their work and other arrangements around our usual 3:20pm dismissal time. Our staggered dismissal is working well and it is now time to return the timing closer to our usual times. This will help reduce congestion in the area as it separates us the bit further from Barnier Public’s dismissal times. Commencing today, Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 will be dismissed at 3:10pm and Years 3 to 6 at 3:20pm, all in the usual locations. This was posted earlier on Skoolbag.

With appreciation for your ongoing support,

Stephen Dowd

CommBank School Banking Program

Saying goodbye to School Banking

We’re sad to announce that the CommBank School Banking program will not be returning to schools in 2022.

For 90 years, our School Banking program has helped children learn about money, reinforced the importance of regular savings and provided structure for parents to support their children to save.

We've had strong support from thousands of schools, parents and teachers across the country who choose to run our program. We’re disappointed with the position taken by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and subsequent decisions by some state and territory governments to take that choice away from individual schools and parents. Because of the ASIC review and these government decisions, we’re unable to continue providing programs in schools, and we’ve had to make a difficult decision to close our School Banking program nationally for all schools, both government and non-government, across the country.

While our in-school program will close, we are committed to supporting financial wellbeing, and will always provide financial education to young Australians. We have launched a new CommBank Youth Hub, which brings together all our youth financial education resources for parents and teachers. This includes a range of free resources including lesson plans, videos and worksheets from our curriculum-aligned financial education program, Start Smart.

To find out more about these changes and to access resources, visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
