Jamberoo Public School Newsletter

TERM 3 WEEK 2 NEWSLETTER 2021

From the Principal

Welcome back to Term 3.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Jamberoo Public School community for the manner in which they have faced the COVID-19 situation, both over the holidays and as Term 3 has begun. I realise that all students, teachers and many parents were in lock down until Monday of week 2 of the holidays because we had our Athletics Carnival in the Shellharbour LGA. Thank you all for staying at home and doing the right thing to keep Jamberoo COVID free.

I am also very aware that many of our school community live in the Shellharbour LGA and are still on a stay at home order. I again would like to thank you for doing the right thing. I know that the children are very happy to be at school, where they can run and play and enjoy not feeling locked in.

We are always aware that we are fortunate to be able to come to school, but on the other hand we need to be prepared if we have to start working from home. Please make sure that you have Class Dojo. If your child is in years 3-6, please start asking them about google classroom. Please also let us know if your household, would struggle with a device for your child to work off? These are very uncertain times and less stress is caused by being prepared. Teachers may be testing out some online platforms with your child at the moment. This is not an indication that we are going online, just a test for preparedness.

https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families

This web page is the most up-to-date Department of Education Covid advice for families. Please check it regularly. I will also do my best to keep everyone up-to-date with the school's restrictions. Thank you for your understanding.

A quick reminder that no visitors should enter school grounds. If you have an appointment please come directly to the office, wearing a mask.

We are very much hoping that we will be out of these restrictions by August 25, so that we can have our Grandparents Day, Book Week and Book Character parade. We have released a save the date for this as it is easier for us to cancel events then to scheduled them at a late date. We wanted to give our families as much notice as possible to get our Grandparents here.

This week is the 100th Day of learning for our students. Over the past 100 days all our students have learnt new things and gave grown in friendships and the way in which they care for themselves, care for others and care for this place. Some classes have celebrated 100 days of learning this week and I would like to congratulate all of the students on their growth over the past 100 days.

Showcase on Cooinda

This week in Cooinda, we have been exploring analog and digital time. We named and ordered months and seasons, described the duration of events, used a calendar to calculate the number of months, weeks or days until an upcoming event and learned to read o'clock and half past time. We consolidated our understanding and practised our time reading skills by playing a game of time bingo.

COVID -19 Information

All students are expected to be at school unless they have even the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms.

Under the current health orders, there is nothing to restrict students and staff who must attend school from moving between two areas with different levels of restrictions. Students and staff should reduce traveling to geographical areas with higher levels of COVID-19 restrictions in place.

A reminder for all families

Students should not attend school if unwell, even with mild symptoms of COVID-19. Any person with any COVID-19 symptoms should be sent home and should not return until they have received a negative test result and are symptom-free. In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms a letter from their GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test.

Anyone who is unwell with COVID-19 symptoms is strongly encouraged to get tested and self-isolate until a negative result is received. Please email these results to the school on jamberoo-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au

Visitors

Non-essential visitors are not permitted in schools. Some visitors are permitted in schools based on the guidelines that follow.

Parents and carers must follow their school’s advice regarding changes to drop off and pick up including staying in the car when dropping off and picking up children if safe to do so.

Parents should:

  • maintain physical distancing by avoiding gathering outside of school gates
  • remain outside of school grounds (note some exceptions may apply regarding schools for specific purposes, vulnerable students or students with disability)
  • follow mask-wearing requirements and sign in using the Service NSW QR code when entering the school.

The key is open communication - please use Dojo to communicate with classroom teachers and if needed Ms Lewis.

New Primary Sport Opportunities

This term Mrs Galea has arranged some exciting sport options for the students of Years 3-6. Thank you to everyone for getting your options in last term.

Mrs Dammerel is taking a dance group, where students are having a fantastic time finding their groove.

Miss Alpen  has a grand slam tennis group and is assisted by two tennis coaches.

Mrs Galea is taking a hard hitting golf group out into the community to learn how to hit big and achieve a hole in one.

Thank you to these teachers, although sport is a compulsory element of student's school life, these ladies go above and beyond to make it more fun and interesting.

Cooking with the Principal

The baking continues. This week Kyle, Sophia, Luca P, Nyasa and Maggie made chocolate caramel marble slice. It was delicious and each student got to take home a large section to share with their families. I hope you got to taste some? This group of year four bakers, read instructions, asked great questions and were very capable bakers. Congratulations boys and girls. I cannot wait to see what our next group of Year 4 students decide to make next week.
