It was wonderful to see so many fathers, grandfathers and significant males this morning at the Fathers Day Liturgy and Breakfast. Thank you to the staff who were at school bright and early cooking the breakfast, our Six readers who did a wonderful job leading the liturgy, to Brad for the coffee van (proceeds raised were over $200 for the school) and to Mrs Riethmuller and Mrs O'Malley who coordinated the morning!
The Kindy class held a pamper session for their dads yesterday afternoon and it was so heart-warming to see the sheer joy and excitement on the children's face when they saw their dad come through the Kindy gate! Thank you to Mrs Millar and Mrs Smith for organising the afternoon.
All CEWA schools have the opportunity to participate in Webinar Week once a term – this is an opportunity for schools to learn about current practice, initiatives and ideas from experts within the system (either in schools or at the CEWA office) remotely. It is very exciting to share with you that this Webinar Week, Miss O’Callaghan presented on “Empowering Education Assistants in the Early Years Classroom.” Chloe had many people across the system tuning into her presentation, for which she received wonderful feedback. Well Done, Chloe!
To assist families who may not be able to attend the Surf Safe Online evening due to babysitters – Mrs Riethmuller will have the Library open for students of St Mary’s School only while the presentation is taking place.
Thank you to those families that are able to help with the Busy Bee to ‘gut’ the Specialist Room on Friday, 10 September. We still require more helpers to ensure that the work is completed in a timely manner. At this stage, we require 1 more helper in the morning (8.00-12.00pm) and 2 more helpers in the afternoon. If you are able to assist, please register through Skoolbag. (Here)
Please be advised that the next P&F Meeting, which was scheduled for Monday, 6 September has been moved out to Monday, 13 September. Please adjust your diaries accordingly.
Thank you to the P&F for organising another successful fundraiser with the Stainless Steel pegs. Daina distributed all the peg orders this morning - so please make sure that you check your child's bag for your order! i was very excited to receive mine and can't wait to use them!
Book Club catalogues have been sent home with students. Please ensure orders are in by Wednesday 8th September.
What a fabulous (although freezing cold) day we had at the Faction Athletics carnival. With a slight change to the format we started the day with our Throwing events followed by the Marching and then the track events. Every student tried their absolute best and performed brilliantly with a great vibe of sportsmanship throughout the day.
Thankyou to all the helpers on the day, the staff for preparing the students, the Merredin Rec Centre, the P &F for providing lunch to the Students, Mr Kevin Southcott and Mrs Marcia Sayers for helping to mark the oval and finally the students for their awesome effort.

One of the recommendations of the canteen committee has been to extend the ordering time from 12.00pm Friday to enable families more flexibility in ordering while also ensuring that Mrs Demarte has enough time to check and replenish stock levels. As of today, families have until 10.00am on Saturday morning to put their canteen orders in. If this is something that you have forgotten to do for Monday or thought that you had missed the deadline then go onto QuickCliq and place your child’s order.
On Tuesday our Year Five and Year Six students were fortunate enough to hear two athletes speak. Luci Marsh, an aspiring Paris Olympian in the Australian Water Polo Team and Jennifer Reilly, a three-time medallist in the Commonwealth Games shared their stories with the students.
The athletes spoke about their sporting journeys and rigorous training routines. They stressed the importance of having a support team and provided our students with some strategies on how to ‘bounce back’ from failures and disappointments.
The students asked many interesting questions and were able to see (and touch) the medals won by the athletes.
I take this opportunity to wish all Dads, Grandads, Uncles and father-figures a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday. May your day be filled with laughter coupled with the smiles and love of those closest to you. And may every witty comment you make, every joke that you crack and every idea that you share be matched with the hilarious belly laugh and compliments that you so richly deserve. Enjoy a wonderful Father’s Day surrounded by your loved ones.
God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families,
Ms Adriana Coniglio
