St Mary's Bulletin

Term 2 - Week 1 (23rd April, 2021)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Values in Focus: Respect

We value others, their property, the environment and ourselves.

Welcome Back

It was lovely to welcome the children back to school on Tuesday.  They all looked happy and excited to be back to school and had many tales to tell about their holidays.

PD

The staff were back at school on Monday and they participated in a Professional Learning opportunity related to Aboriginal Education, led by staff from CEWA.  We were joined by St Joseph’s Southern Cross.  The learning from this professional development day will drive future school improvement within this space.

Art Project

St Mary’s has been invited to participate in an Art Project. This will be facilitated by Chloe Flockart and run throughout Term Two.  The aim of the project is to allow the students to develop an understanding of how and why public art is made and to give them the opportunity to design and create public art works to be showcased in Merredin/at St Mary's. The Year ¾ and 4/5 class will be participating.  Each class will be working together to make one art piece (either a mural or a sculpture) which will be displayed within our school or within the Merredin community.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our children and I look forward to seeing the finished products.

ANZAC Day

We celebrate ANZAC Day on Sunday, 25th April and remember those who fought for our country, at Gallipoli, over one hundred years ago and in wars since so that we can all have the freedom we have today.  Olivia Geier and Miji Onikola (Head Girl and Head Boy) will be representing St Mary’s School at the 11.00am ceremony at Cummins Theatre.  As a school, we will acknowledge ANZAC Day at assembly on Tuesday morning.

Cross

Please ensure that you come and see our new statement cross in the office.  This was designed and made by our Year Six students in conjunction with Prendiville Catholic College.  The colours of the cross (bottom upwards) represent the changes in the agricultural landscape in our community leading towards the sunset.  There are five smaller crosses inlaid that represent our school, our factions and the Holy Spirit.

Canteen - Week Two to Week Four

Please be reminded that there will be no canteen for the following three weeks as Mrs Demarte is having a medical procedure and will be on sick leave.  A Skoolbag notification was sent out to all families on Wednesday; however, I am aware that some families are having problems with the app.

School Fees - Setting and Collection

At the last School Advisory Council meeting, the Council made some amendments to the current St Mary’s School Fee Setting and Collection Policy, in line with new auditing and system requirements.  The amendments are in point 2.14, 2.18 and 2.23.  A copy of the policy is attached for your information.  This can also be found on the school website.

Skoolbag App

It has been brought to our attention that some families are currently having problems with the Skoolbag App. The support team at Skoolbag have recommended users delete and reinstall the app if they are experiencing issues. If you continue to have problems, please contact the school.

Book Club

Book Club Catalogues have been sent home with students today. Orders are due in by Friday 30th April.

Let Us Pray

Jesus, You are the good shepherd.

You know each of us by name and you lay down your life for us.

Amen.
