St Monica's Primary North Parramatta Newsletter

Term 4 Week 11 2021

Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

It is easy to think that 2021 has been a year of loss, but as I sat down to write this newsletter, I reflected on some of the moments of joy at St Monica’s this year.

Our students have enjoyed excursions to the Maritime Museum and the Riverside Theatre, they have been to see the Stations of the Cross at Northmead Performing Arts High School, participated in our Athletics Carnival, the Winter Sleepout, Red and Yellow Day, FIAT Lifted Live Junior, Gala Days and our 2021 Book Week Celebrations.  They have enjoyed Hawaii Holiday Friday and Fun Food Days.

During lockdown, there were still so many fun experiences for our students - Sport zooms with Miss Barakat, a virtual disco with Mr Levins, St Monica’s Feast Day and Fabulous Fun Fridays!

Our parent community has enjoyed Open Days during Catholic Schools Week, our inaugural “Look at what we’re learning” afternoon, Parent Numeracy Workshop, Parenting in a Pandemic Presentation and a Mothers’ Day morning tea.

Our staff have engaged in professional learning, including Reading Recovery (Miss Shaw), EMU (Mrs Stenning), R3 (Mr Baker), Rigorous PBL (Miss Anschau and Miss Barakat), Wired for Sound (Miss Chahine and Mrs D’Silva), Growing Great Leaders (SMNP Leadership Team) and numerous whole staff professional learning opportunities around Religious Education, English and Mathematics.

It’s no wonder we are all exhausted!  I feel so blessed to lead this community and my hope for you and your families is that you have many moments of joy over Christmas and the New Year.  May the peace of the birth of Christ come to you and your loved ones.

Stay safe and Merry Christmas,

Mrs Lisa Crampton
Principal

Preparing for 2022

Please remember the following as you prepare for the new school year:

All students are expected to wear the St Monica’s uniform with pride throughout the year.  This includes wearing the correct hat, socks and shoes.  This helps to keep students focused on their learning whilst also maintaining a consistent atmosphere across the school.

 Some important reminders:

· School shoes are black leather lace ups/Velcro/buckle.

· Sport shoes are predominantly white for sport with white laces.

· No slip on “Raben” type shoes or coloured joggers, runners or basketball boots are to be worn.

HAIRSTYLES

Parents are reminded to please follow the guidelines for haircuts.
Please keep extreme styles to the school holidays so that all children return in 2022 with styles adhering with the school policy.
Please see the guidelines as per the Parent Handbook.

At the beginning of each school year, students are requested to bring in a number of items to assist with their learning.

Please see the notes below for the requirements your child will need in 2022.

Farewell

We farewell the following staff members who will be leaving St Monica's at the end of this year.

Miss Jowelle Chahine - we thank her for her contribution to Kindergarten over the last two years and we wish her all the best for 2022.

Mrs Emma Eastman has been our amazing Japanese teacher for the last two years.  In 2022, Mrs Eastman will complete her final university placement before she follows her passion in high school education.

Mrs Denelle Gardoni has accepted a position at St Angela's Castle Hill in 2022.  Mrs Gardoni has been at St Monica's for 14 years and has made a significant contribution to our community, including many students and families.  We know that St Monica’s loss is St Angela’s gain.  Thank you for everything you have done for St Monica's and for the lives you have touched.

We thank these dedicated staff members for their contribution to our students, parents, staff and school community and we wish them well as they leave St Monica's.

We will miss you.
