From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

This week we gained a sense of normality with busy classroom schedules, specialist programs, unit assessments, 3/4 Hoop Time and hopefully assembly tomorrow.  Just a regular week really, but now... we are hearing that a 3 day lockdown may be imminent. I will send a letter home  if and when the announcement is made. Stay Tuned!

An important event in our school calendar is the First Eucharist celebration for the 17 Year 5s who are participating.  The children will receive their First Eucharist on Sunday August 15 at 10:30am in the Parish Church.  We wish them well as they complete their preparation booklets with their families.

One of our biggest community events is the Spring Time Fair.  Our Parents & Friends committee are currently making plans for it and would love some new and energetic parents (mums & dads) to get involved to lighten the load.  Please contact Renee Killen if you are able to be involved.

Kind regards,

Olga Lyons, Principal

CELEBRATING FAMILY WEEK 8 – 14 August 2021

This year we are celebrating 200 years of Catholic education in Australia, marking the bicentenary of the first Catholic school established in Parramatta in October 1820.

Parents and carers are the primary educators of their children, and as crucial partners in each student’s learning journey. To recognise the significant contribution families have made to the foundation, growth and continuity of Catholic schools in Australia over 200 years, a Family Week will be celebrated nationally from 8 August 2021 - 14 August 2021.

The week coincides with the Feast Day of Australia’s First Saint, Mary MacKillop, who was a passionate educator and advocate for children and families, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

For more information about bicentenary visit www.200years.catholic.edu.au

The CASEA program will be offered at St Patrick’s Port Fairy Primary School during Term 4, 2021.

The CASEA program has been designed to assist schools and families to support children with their social, emotional and behavioural development. It has been developed to help children in Foundation to Year 3 to understand and express emotions more effectively and to enhance problem solving and relationship skills.   CASEA is a free program and is not compulsory.

The program runs over an 8 week period and consists of a weekly children’s group (1.5 hours), a parent/guardian group (1.5 hours) and teacher consultation.

If you have any questions or would like further information regarding the program please contact: Stephanie Green or Kiera Hardy, CASEA Clinicians, South West Healthcare CAMHS.  Telephone 5561 9100.

If you would like your child to be considered for this program, please complete a consent form, available through the school.  Forms will need to be returned by Friday, 20th August 2021.

School News

Yr 3/4 Hoop Time Results & Other Sports News

Year 3 / 4 HOOPTIME RESULTS and Other Sports News.

Year 3 / 4 children participated in the 2021 Annual Hoop Time Basketball competition on Tuesday.  It was a weird day without spectators.  A little bit like the Olympics without the world class athletes!  Nevertheless, our players threw themselves into the action and gave their very best efforts for the day.  Four teams represented St Patrick’s and all teams played four matches each.

The All-Stars Boys and Girls both had wins on the day and advanced to the semifinals but were unable to win these and play off in a grand final.

The Rookies improved game by game throughout the day and were able to hit the scoreboard more as the day progressed.  A big thank you to Adrian Hallam for coaching our first time players.

Our Future Stars team played very well all day and were undefeated going into their semi final before also losing in a closely contested match.  St Patrick’s students played all day with good sportsmanship and support for their fellow teammates.  Thanks also to Miss Osborne and Xavier for coaching on the day.

Year 5 / 6 children will have their opportunity to participate in Hoop Time on Tuesday August 17th.

In other sports news our Moyne District winning football team will compete at the next level regionals in Warrnambool next Thursday 12th August.  A venue and date is yet to be confirmed.  Excitingly, our first ever all girls Aussie rules footy team will compete the following week also and a date and venue is also yet to be confirmed.  We will inform students and parents of all the necessary information once it comes to hand.

Hats are back!!! Monday August 16

From Monday August 16, all student must be wearing their school hat. Our Sun Smart Policy states that hats must be worn from Mid August to the end of April.

Student's Birthdays

The school has had to make a decision regarding student birthdays.  No food, cakes or lollies can be brought into the school to share with their classmates. We have a number of children with allergies and the school needs to ensure everyone's safety.

Birthdays will still be celebrated by their teacher and classmates with a birthday song and recognised at our assemblies.

Working Bee - New Date August 14

We hope the families listed here are able to make the alternative date of August 14.  This working bee is essential to our preparation for the building project due to begin in October.  Janine will message these families to check their availability.

There is also a special consideration category for asylum seeker and refugee families.

Please contact the office if you would like to apply for the funding. The extension period for applications ends on Friday 13 August 2021.
