Message from Mrs Ellis

As we near the end of 2021, I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the achievements and progress of all students at Blaxland Public School. The resilience and perseverance shown by all students to do their personal best both at home and at school is admirable. This year has been an interrupted year of learning with our school operating in the learning from period for 13 weeks. We have then returned to school needing to operate in cohorts and with interactions limited across the school. All staff have continued to work and teach wearing a mask as part of the school’s Covid Safe Plan which at times can be very challenging. The staff have worked incredibly hard this year, and we are fortunate to have caring, passionate and flexible staff at Blaxland Public School. The school community has been relentless in their support of our school, and I thank everyone for your continued encouragement and advocacy of Blaxland Public School.

Principal’s Morning Tea

Today, I had the pleasure of spending some time at morning tea with the students in our school who had received a Principal’s award, an Aussie of the month award or a Silver Award during Semester 2. Congratulations to all of these students for your excellence in upholding our schools’ expectations to Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be a Learner.

Presentation Day Assembly

Congratulations to all students who were recognised at the Presentation Assembly, we are proud of you. A recording of the assembly has been uploaded onto each classes Google classroom. Unfortunately, we were unable to have parents onsite with us but hopefully 2022 will be a better year for everyone.

School Leaders

Thank you Baxter, Tatum, Samantha and Caitlin for leading the school throughout 2021 in your roles as Captains and Vice Captains. I wish you every success in the future.

Congratulations Anastasia and Rhys elected as School Captains in 2022 and Gabriella and Cooper elected Vice captains in 2022. I look forward to working with you in leading our fabulous school.

Planning for 2022

Plans are being put in place for 2022 as we speak. We will have six classes in 2022. Many staff will be changing classes in 2022. There will be two staff development days prior to the start of the school year on Friday 28th January and Monday 31st January 2021. School resumes for students in Years 1-6 on Tuesday 1st February. Kindergarten students will complete their Best Start Assessments in literacy and numeracy during that week and they will start school on Friday 4th February 2021.

Film by the Eucalyptus

This year, Mrs Hall has been working with the students in 5/6E to produce short films for the Blue Mountains Film by the Eucalypts. We have been successful, and we have had students from Blaxland PS nominated as finalists in the Film festival. Their films will be available from Friday night in the Film by the Eucalypts. The judges have said they were very impressed by our students acting and camera angles.  Mrs Hall is very proud of everyone in this class for the hard work they have put into their films. They were so grown up, making great choices in creating art in a new media.

The children whose films were chosen to be in the festival are Samantha. Sienna, Anastasia, Ambrielle, Yazmyne, Shiv, Henry, Leo and Matthew.

The link for the film festival will be live from Friday night 10/12/21 after 6.30pm until the end of term 4.

Parking

The parking outside our school continues to be a problem for the school community. After contacting Blue Mountains Council to share my concerns I am happy to report that we had the Road Safety Coordinator and a safety engineer at school last Friday 3rd December at pick up time to observe what happens each afternoon at our school. I look forward to hearing back from the council in the new year. It is important that all parents follow the parking rules and parents must not park in the No Stopping Zones.

Class Fun Day

Each class will be having a fun day on Tuesday 14th December which may involve a movie, popcorn and watermelon. Each class teacher will have the fun day with their own class  with COVID safe practices. Children may wear Mufti on this day if they wish.

Merry Christmas

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Christmas. Relax and enjoy the time spent with your families and friends. I look forward to seeing everyone in 2022.
