Lithgow Public School Newsletter

Term 4 Week 11

From the Principal

Dear Lithgow Public School Community,

As the year draws to a close, I would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff of Lithgow Public School for their tireless work in what was another challenging year. Regardless of these challenges, the teaching, office and support staff have maintained their professionalism and energy to make sure that your children receive the best education possible.

I would also like to thank the community for their ongoing support through what has been another extremely difficult period. I look forward to the school once again being accessible so that our parents, carers and wider community can share the successes of our students in person in 2022.

I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge and thank several staff members who will move on to new experiences and adventures in 2022. Mrs Sue Picman will be taking leave in 2022 with a view to potential retirement in 2023. Mr Michael Clarke will take up position as a Science teacher at Kelso High School, an area in which he has is specifically trained. Mrs Julie Murmane , who has worked as an SLSO across our school, will retire and play lots of golf.  I would like to personally thank these staff members for all of their efforts and for the care and dedication they have shown to the students at Lithgow Public School and wish them all the best with the next stages of their lives.

I would also like to welcome several new teaching staff to role of Classroom Teacher in 2022. I would like to welcome Miss Megan Kappos, Miss Olivia Thurtell and Mr Daniel Bosman to our teaching team. I would also like to welcome Miss Brooke Wilkinson back into a classroom teacher role. We look forward to working with you at Lithgow Public School in 2021 and beyond.

As was the case in 2021, Lithgow Public School will employ 4 Intervention Teachers from school funds in 2022. These teachers will be working Tuesday to Thursday each week and will provide intensive support to students in need across the school. This will include supporting students with specific gifts or talents. This is a significant investment in the students at Lithgow Public School and will be of great benefit to many of our students.

Additionally, we have initiated some exciting changes to how our release from face-to-face learning operates for 2022. This includes the creation of a dedicated STEM lab (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) for all students to access. Other RFF classes will include dedicated Visual Arts and Music lessons. We have invested a significant amount of money in resourcing these initiatives which will be a fantastic addition on our school benefiting all our students and preparing them for the jobs of the future.

At the commencement of the 2022 school year, we will provide a full overview of classes and their teachers as well as support roles staff across the school. Thank you again for all your support during 2021. I wish all families a safe Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Students in Year 1-6 will return to school on Tuesday 1 February with Kindergarten students beginning school from Tuesday 8 February.

Kind regards, Mark Davies | Principal | Lithgow Public School
