Bogangar Public School Newsletter

TERM 2 Week 8, 2019

Message from the Principal -

Dear Parents & Carers,

It's been a busy fortnight of exciting and engaging learning experiences for our students.

Congratulations to all the students who have represented our school at the various activities recently. We are constantly receiving compliments from community members and event organisers about how well behaved and involved our students are.

The next fortnight doesn't show any signs of the activities slowing down.

On Thursday we have the school athletics carnival being hosted at Kingscliff High School. All students will be attending this so please ensure you have returned permission notes.

There are also excursions to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and Queensland Museum as well.

A reminder that there are a number of ways to pay for these activities. You can pay online via the school website using POP or through the SkoolBag app. Exact money can be sent into the office in a clearly marked envelope with correct change as we don't hold money on site so can not guarantee we will have the necessary change. EFTPOS is also available in the front office.

What's Happening Term 2, 2019 - Week 8, 9 & 10

News Time in 1 Coral

Every morning students from 1 Coral share news. We hear lots of interesting things and get to see some great toys. It is especially exciting when we get to see Lego creations and amazing artwork.

Here is Seth in his cool Troll wig. He told us all about a trip he took to Dreamworld and how much fun he had. We love telling and listening to news in 1 Coral.

New research: Parenting in the digital age

The latest research from the eSafety Commissioner focuses on parents’ experiences raising children in an online world. It provides insights into how parents assess and react to their children’s negative online experiences.

Key findings include:

·         94% of parents agree their child’s online safety is important

·         when it comes to their kids’ online safety, parents are most concerned about  exposure to inappropriate content; unwanted contact from strangers; being bullied online

·         only 46% of parents feel confident dealing with online risks their kids might face

·         only one third of parents actively seek out info on how to manage online safety

·         95% of parents agreed they need additional online safety information.

Far North Coast Dance

FNC Dance

In Week 6, Years 2-6 dance students performed at the Far North Coast Dance Festival.

Students left early in the morning for their dress rehearsal at Home Of The Arts on the Gold Coast before returning later in the night to perform. We can only speak highly of all three dance performances and the students’ fantastic behaviour over the entire day.

The day was exciting and engaging and we all had a great time. Our three dance groups were definitely amazing in the festival and certainly got the attention of the audience.

Congratulations to all dancers for their ongoing commitment since the beginning of the year. You all should be proud of yourselves for being part of such a great team.

We look forward to dancing for you all again shortly!

Mrs Houghton, Ms Knight, Mrs Williams, Mrs Wishart.

Dance Teachers

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

We will be having a dance and choir presentation on Tuesday 2nd July commencing at 2.30pm, in the hall. Each student in K-3 will be performing a dance with their stage and the Year 2-6 choir will be presenting a song. We invite all parents, carers and family members to join us to see all the hard work the students have been doing in their dance classes.

Book Club News

Book Club

Book club is on again! This issue sees a crazy amount of books reduced to bargain prices! Plus Kool Kat Reading Adventures continues with some free gifts each time you place an order. On your 2nd order, your child will receive a Kool Kat book bag and reader certificate. On your 3rd order, your child will receive a Kool Kat reading poster and a bookmark. On your 4th order, you will receive a copy of the book ‘Insta Graphics – A visual guide to your universe’.

Research from the most recent Australian Kids and Family Reading Report shows that the more children read, the better readers they become, and the better readers they become, the more they enjoy reading. Book Club is a fun and convenient way of bringing popular titles and series from best-selling authors that we know kids love, and helps with bridging the ever-important class-to-home reading gap.

All orders processed through Book Club, earn points for our school. These reward points go towards buying new books for our school library and educational tools which we use across all stages.

This year all book club orders must be made online through the LOOP system at www.scholastic.com.au/loop

Once you have created an account, you can link your child and their class to your profile. Simply select the current issue, place your order and pay online in one easy transaction. Your order will then be delivered directly to your child at school with nothing else for you to do.

All orders for issue 4 must be placed by Tuesday 18 June.

Thank you to all the families who continue to support this rewarding program.

COLOUR FUN RUN

We need your help!

The P&C are raising funds for big fans in the school hall in time for summer.

What you and your child need to do:

1)    GET SPONSORS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE RUN.

-   The best  option is to register online using this link: schoolfundraising.com.au If you are registered online then you can collect sponsors online including via Facebook etc.

- The other option for collecting sponsorship is a little booklet that was sent home with your child last week – or you can get another one at the school office.

-   There are prizes for the students dependent on how much money they raise (the same sort of things as Jump Rope for Heart).

2)    PARTICIPATE ON THE FINAL DAY OF SCHOOL THIS TERM (Thursday 4 July)

-   The run will be happening after lunch at school (from 1.30pm). Students will run around the oval and parent helpers will be set up in four areas to spray (non toxic ) colour at them. They will also have to negotiate some obstacles.

-  If students want to avoid getting sprayed, there will paths they can chose to run instead.

-  The run will be done in stages and each group will run around for about 15 minutes. It’s not a race and they are not trying to run any particular distance. It’s mostly just fun!

-  Students should wear an old white t-shirt so they can be sprayed in lots of different fabulous colours.

3)   COME ON THE DAY AND HELP!

 -   If you can help your child get sponsors, that would be great. We would also like to see you there on the day if you are free. We’ll also be looking for parent volunteers to help us spray the colour.

AFL Gala Day

On Thursday 13th June our school AFL team competed in the PSSA Gala Day at Tweed Heads. Our first game was against Cudgen PS and was evenly poised at half time. Cudgen had a strong third quarter to run away eventual winners 29-15.

Our second game was against Centaur PS, who were very dominant in the first half with the help of a strong wind. BPS used the wind to their advantage in the second half to win the game 21-17. This win was our first win of all the PSSA sports for the year so the coach, parents and players were very happy!

All the boys who played on the day displayed the enthusiasm and sportsmanship I have come to expect from BPS students. We play hard but we play fair. We respect our opponents, the officials and our teammates.

Thank you to all the parents who transported the athletes to and from the game!

AFL Coach
