St Mary's Bulletin

Term 3 - Week 1 (23 July, 2021)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Value in Focus: Faith

We believe strongly in God and each other.

Welcome Back

It was lovely to see everyone back refreshed and rejuvenated on Tuesday morning.  It seems that all the staff and students had a lovely break and are now ready to undertake what promises to be a busy term.  I would like to welcome the following families who join the St Mary’s School community:  Njuguna family (Joellah, 3YO Kindy) and Singh family (Yuvraj, Pre-Primary).

Uniform Shop

It is my pleasure to let you know that Emma Growden will be taking over the Uniform Shop co-ordinator’s role from Jasmin Holmes.  This is a vital volunteer role in our school community, and I thank Jasmin for all the time and energy she has put into the Uniform Shop over the last eight years and Emma for her willingness to take  this role on.

Front Car Park

I have received a number of comments of concern in regard to the front car park (outside the office).  This car park is for the use of families that have students in Pre-Kindy to Year One only – everyone else is asked to use the carpark behind the school.  All parents who use this carpark are asked to exercise patience and vigilance when driving in or driving out.  Toddlers are to be supervised by their parents at all times in and around the carpark.   I appreciate that mornings and afternoons can be rushed and hectic for families, but we do not want an accident to occur where one of our students (and/or their siblings) is hurt due to negligence.  The safety and care of our students must be everyone's priority.

Book Club

Bookclub catalogues have been sent home with students this week. Orders are due in by Friday, 30th July.

Footy Tipping

There is just 5 rounds left of our 2021 St Mary's Footy Tipping Comp.  Things are looking a bit shaky at the moment with all the COVID complications but we're hanging in there!  EDMW and Jim Ransom1 are absolute neck and neck with at least 6 others hot on their heels!

Round 15 sponsored by Desert Eagles Helicopters was won by Solamente.

Round 16 sponsored by Transplus was won by Shanene Boyd

Round 17 sponsored by HIT FM was won by Danielle Jacobson

Round 18 sponsored by Two Dogs Merredin was won by Ben Dicky.

Canteen Committee

At the School Advisory Council, an item of discussion has been how we can ensure the viability, sustainability and accessibility of the school canteen. An outcome of this has been to establish a canteen committee.  This committee will be chaired by Mrs Riethmuller and consist of SAC member Mel Carr, Damiana Demarte and representatives from the parent community – Shay Creagh, Emma Growden and Tessa Crook.  I thank these ladies for taking on this role and I look forward to sharing with you their recommendations and ideas.

School Climate Survey

All families will be receiving information through Skoolbag in regard to completing a Parent and Caregiver Survey.  This survey administered by NSI Partnerships will give the Leadership Team valuable information that will assist in our school improvement processes.  Staff and students will also complete similar surveys so that a community-wide perspective can be obtained.  All responses are confidential, and completion of the survey is on a voluntary basis.  The survey opens on Monday, 2 August and will close on Friday, 20 August.

GEMS

You may have noticed that the Leadership Team has been absent from school during the second half of the week.  We have been in Kalgoorlie attending GEMS and the Leaders Forum Roadshow where we collaborated with our regional colleagues in relation to system initiatives and improvement practices, in particular, the launch of the Quality Catholic Education Framework (QCE) which I look forward to sharing with you all in due course.  Thank you to Mrs Grant and Miss Walsh for leading the school while the leadership team was away.

CPPA

I will be attending the CPPA Conference in Perth from Tuesday to Thursday next week.  Mrs Riethmuller and Mrs O’Malley will be responsible for the school in my absence.

Family Friday

Next Friday, 30th July we have Family Friday.  All families are welcome to join their children in their classrooms to play a game, read a book, do a puzzle or an activity that the teacher has planned.  I look forward to seeing you all on Friday morning and apologise for the mix up with dates on the parent term planners.

LSL

I will be accessing some long service leave from Monday, 2 August until Friday, 20 August.  While I won’t be travelling far – I will be celebrating a significant birthday with friends and family.  The Executive Director has appointed Mrs Zoe O’Malley as the short-term principal of St Mary’s School during this time.  This is a great leadership opportunity for Zoe and I thank her for her generosity and willingness to take it on.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families,

Ms Adriana Coniglio

Principal

Let Us Pray

We pray, Lord,

for all who will need strength and courage today:

- for those who are seriously ill;

- for those who are in desperate situations and see no hope of anything different;

- for those who find it difficult to face others or themselves;

- for those in pain from illness or mistreatment or torture;

- for those who know that others depend on them.

For all these people we ask for the power of your Spirit in their lives.

Amen.
