St. Joseph's Primary

Penshurst

Acknowledgement of Country

At St. Joseph’s Primary School we pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land, the Kolorer gunditj people and pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.

The area around Mount Rouse is the country of the Kolorer gunditj clan of Aboriginal people. Their title is derived from their name for Mount Rouse which is Kolor. The permanent spring that is now located within the Penshurst Botanic Gardens was a traditional meeting place for Aboriginal people in the region.

School Vision

St Joseph’s Penshurst, as partners in Catholic education and with our school community, pursues fullness of life for all.

Prayer

Let us pray for all who suffer as a result of conflict, and ask that God may give us peace:

For the service men and women who have died in the violence of war, each one remembered by and known to God; May God give peace, God give peace For those who love them in death as in life, offering the distress of our grief and the sadness of our loss;

May God give peace.

For all members of the armed forces who are in danger this day, remembering family, friends and all who pray for their safe return; May God give peace, God give peace For civilian women, children and men whose lives are disfigured by war or terror, calling to mind in penitence the anger and hatreds of humanity;

May God give peace.

Message from the Principal

Hello everyone. Term 4 Week 7 is here. 5 weeks to go and still lots to do.

Last Thursday we had a small ceremony around the flagpole to commemorate Remembrance Day. The students are to be commended on the respectful way they participated in this ceremony and were able to reflect on the importance of the event.

We may also need to do a couple of whole school photos again. We will finalise the time and day for this and let you know ASAP so students can be in proper uniform.

This week we will continue with our Bike Ed classes on Wednesday. We have our final Personal Development session with the grade 5 & 6 group on Wednesday morning. Mrs Gow will be away on Thursday so we welcome Mrs Narelle Hill into her class and I will be away on Friday at a Principal's meeting.

Please check below for further dates as we start to plan for the end of year. Hope you all have an awesome week.

End of Year Excursions

After all the uncertainty of 2021 we have decided to lock in a couple of whole school excursions to give the students some lasting memories together. In the last week of school we will have two whole school excursions. On Monday the 13th December we will all go to the pool together for some fun in the water. On Thursday the 16th December we will jump on the bus and head to the Halls Gap Zoo. We look forward to sharing these final weeks together as a community.

School Advisory Council Meeting & AGM

The St. Joseph's AGM and final School Advisory Council meeting for 2021 will be held on 24th November at 7pm. The meeting will be held at school.

Sacrament of Eucharist

Eucharist will be on Sunday the 28th November at 10:30am, 5 students from our school will be celebrating the sacrament of Eucharist at mass in the church.

We ask that all the community keep Mason and Karley Watson, Clancy and Hilton Mullins and Zoe Calvert in their thoughts and prayers as they celebrate this special occasion.

Graduation and End of Year Celebration

We have set aside Monday 13th December for our Graduation and End of Year celebrations. We ask all families to try to keep the evening of this date free as we would love to finish the year off together as a community. We will be celebrating the end of Primary School with our grade 6's as well as the amazing year that all our school community has had. More information around time and details of event to come.

Happy Birthday

Happiest of birthdays to Toryn Hoyt who turns 12 on the 19th of November.

Hats and Summer Uniform

Students at school are required to wear hats when playing outside in Term 4. If you have not sent your child’s hat to school yet, can you please do so ASAP. New hats are available to purchase through the school.

Wellbeing

Hello, with all the changes our young ones have had to manage these past 2 years I have noted more anxiety, (albeit short term for most), and the need to acknowledge our children’s mental health. When I saw this, I thought it would be of interest. If you wish to find more helpful tips please visit Big Life Journal.

Have a great week.

Kind regards

Catholic School Culture

The real role of a king is to look after the needs of his people. A good king is more concerned with caring for his people than he is in being served.

During His last days on earth, Jesus was arrested and put on trial. When asked if He was a king, Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world."
