Scotts Head Public School Newsletter

Term 4 | Week 8 | 1 December 2020

Principals Column

Hello, Giinagay, Hai

Michael Blockey - Thank you for helping us make a difference in our community

His generosity and commitment to our community is what makes this a great place to live and work.

The investments he has made in our community by donating his time, talent and treasures, he has accomplished so much over many years, especially the school's bush tucker track.

Because of Michael, he has improved our community and people’s lives.

On behalf of so many people in our community whose lives are better, we thank you.

To show our appreciation there will be a community picnic in the park this Saturday to say thank you.  I hope some of the community can come along and join us in a celebration to say a HUGE heartfelt thanks for all Michael has done. The picnic will commence at 12.00pm at the Scotts Head Reserve.

Hope to see you there❤️  All the best to you Michael Blockey

No swimming program for 2020

No formal swimming program is taking place this year, due to the lack of availability of suitable times at our local pool. The time offered was early in this term.  This meant our students would have been swimming in a cold pool, which is not conducive for students being comfortable in the water for a long time.

Year 6 Farewell

Our Year 6 Farewell is to be held on Wednesday 9 December.  The format for the evening is as follows:

  • Students are to arrive at club between 5.45pm and 6.00 pm for photos in the carpark
  • Parents then enter club and take a seat.
  • Year 6 students will then enter the club one at a time through an arch.
  • Speeches, dinner and powerpoint display between 6.00 to 7.30 pm.
  • Students will be walked by supervising staff to the Christian camp for an overnight camp.

Transition into 2021

All students here at SHPS are supported in a range of ways which aims to build healthy, resilient students who will thrive in school and adult life. As part of that building process, today each student had a taste of what’s ahead next year by spending the morning with their teacher, and in their classes and with their classmates for 2021.

There are a few changes in the staff arrangements next year.

  • Deb Swan will be returning to class.
  • Lyndsey Caldecott will be taking on the Learning and Support and Instructional Leader across the school, as well as continuing her role as Instructional leader at Macksville Public School on Wednesdays.

Unfortunately, due to these changes Bu Rebecca will not be returning as a temporary part time staff member. We thank her greatly for her contribution to our school in the last couple of years and will look forward to her still being involved at our school as a casual. Thanks for tuning us all up with your zest and musical talents and appreciate all your care and compassion for our community.

Class teachers for 2021 are:

Year K/1               Bettina Core

Year 1/2               Annette Balfour

Year 3/4               Deborah Swan                  (Monday to Wednesday)

Year 3/4               Lyndsey Caldecott            (Thursday to Friday)

Year 4/5               Adam Rumsey

Year 6                   Chris Haynes

Indonesian Team

Karl Krause          Working across SHPS and Macksville HS

Emily Brien         (Monday to Thursday)

Nicole Mason     (Thursday)

Pak Mur               (Tuesday to Thursday)

In each class there will be a School Learning Support Officer up until 1.30pm. Leanne Hunt after years as a highly regarded support person, is not coming back in 2021. Working next year more in a casual capacity will give her more flexibility to explore other pathways. We thank Leanne for all she has done to support various students with additional support needs for a number of years. We wish her the best for her future endeavours.

Thanks, yaarri yaraang, terima kasih.
