Be Safe - Be Responsible - Be Respectful - Be Your Best

Wednesday 21 April, 2021 - Term 2 - Week 1 - Issue 11

Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome Back

We hope our families had a lovely Easter break and enjoyed the beautiful weather in our amazing part of the world. As always, it’s great to see our students returning so happy, ready for another busy term of learning.

Huskisson ANZAC March

We encourage students to participate in the Huskisson ANZAC March and Memorial Service on ANZAC Day this Sunday, 25 April. I understand that some students may not be able to attend, however, it would be wonderful if Tomerong School was well represented. Students are to meet at Hawke Street, Huskisson (near amenities block at the spider park), at 10am. As always, students are expected to be in full winter uniform.

ANZAC Service

Our school will be holding our ANZAC ceremony at 10.30am tomorrow, Thursday 22 April. Recent changes to COVID guidelines state that the 1.5m social distancing requirement is no longer mandatory, although remains recommended. This means parents and visitors are most welcome to attend our service providing they are well. When arriving, please QR code in as well as signing in the visitors book located at the assembly area.

Canteen

Last Term our P&C investigated a range of options following Emma’s announcement that she was not able to continue operating the canteen in its current guise. At this point there is no other option than to have our canteen closed, unless a parent or community member would like to take on the role of coordinator on a voluntary basis, or parents would like to trial the idea of a one off food day to ‘test the waters’ in providing a service to our students. We are genuinely open to all ideas on how we can do this on either a short term or longer term basis. Our amazing canteen is a great resource and we’d love to see it being utilised. If you would like to discuss any options in confidence, please don’t hesitate to make contact with me.

NAPLAN

As outlined last term, our Year 3 and 5 students will be participating in NAPLAN assessments during Week 4 and 5 of this term. If you believe your child should be exempt from the assessments, or you would like to discuss your child’s involvement, please see me. Below is a link to further information.

Welcome Back Mrs Moore

We welcome Mrs Lauren Moore back to school each Tuesday and Wednesday for the remainder of this year, following her maternity leave. Mrs Moore will be taking 1-2P each Tuesday and 3-4S on Wednesday, replacing Mrs Suldahna for library/RFF. This means 3-4S will change their library day to Wednesday. I join everyone at Team Tomerong in wishing Mrs Saldahna all the very best on the arrival of her little one.

Have a great week,

Rod White

School Photo Day – Change of Date - Uniform Orders

I wish to advise parents that there has been a change of date for our School Photo Day due to a clash with the NAPLAN Assessment period. Photo Day will now be held in Week 8, Wednesday 9 June.

It is hoped that this early notification will assist parents and carers in determining whether they need to place an order with our uniform provider, School Locker and have it delivered well in time for photo day.

If you need to raise an order with School Locker and have not already created an account, an instructional video link can be found below and can be accessed each week in the Newsletter. You can also access the link by clicking the Parents & Citizens label on the maroon ribbon on the school’s website at https://tomerong-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/.

Students will be required to wear their WINTER uniform for photo day.

Photo order envelopes will be sent home with students later in the term and more information regarding photo day will be published in our weekly newsletter.

Cross Country News

What an amazing way to finish Term 1! Our school’s cross country was held at ‘Willandra’ for the very first time and it was a huge success. The weather was perfect for running and the views of Cambewarra Mountain were simply breathtaking.

Thanks to all the students who gave it their very best effort on the day and endured the notorious ‘heartbreak hill’.  The owners of ‘Willandra’ were extremely impressed by the fantastic manners, great behaviour and school spirit that occurred on the day.

A special sports assembly has been planned for next Thursday, 29 April at 2.30pm. Students who placed in the top three will receive their ribbons at this assembly and parents are welcome to join us!

The District cross country will be held on Thursday 27 May. Those students who placed in the top 6 at our school carnival are able to attend. I encourage students to keep running and training for this event. I will organise an afternoon to meet at Cambewarra Cross Country Course for those students who would like to do some training. More information about this carnival will be sent home soon.

Rugby League News

On behalf of the school, I would like to congratulate Ashton Kember for being selected in the Shoalhaven District Rugby League Team. Ashton will be heading down to Bateman’s Bay this Friday to compete in a number of games and we wish him all the best.
