Steve Manzoney Award - Nominations

This is an annual award presented at the Year 6 Graduation Ceremony in December.

The award has been in place since 2004 and was established to honour the hard work and commitment to the school and Duncraig community by one of our parents, Mr Steve Manzoney who sadly passed away in September 2004.

In 1999 Steve took up a position on the P&C social committee and committed an enormous amount of time and energy organising a variety of functions that raised valuable funds for the school and brought the community together. In 2001 he also was the P&C Treasurer.  He was always willing to lend a hand around the school, helping out on carnival days and other school events. He was someone you could rely on.

Steve was also involved in the Duncraig community, coaching basketball, umpiring T-ball and actively involved in the junior football as a coach and runner.

We are now requesting nominations for this award.  The criteria can be found on the nomination form which can be downloaded within this article.  A copy has also been sent via Skoolbag.

Please return the form to the office marked “Attention to the Principal” by Friday, 5th November 2021

Around Glengarry

Buddy Time!

On the last day of Term 3, the Year 3 and 4 students from Room 6 visited the Rainbow Lorikeets in Kindy for some buddy activities.  They enjoyed spending time together and participating in activities including reading, playing, watering the garden, and holding the baby chicks.

Term 3 Mufti Day

Students participated in a Mufti Day on the last day of school in Term 3. They were asked to wear their favourite team jersey, or come dressed as their favourite athlete.

It was wonderful to see so many students participating in this event, and what is even more amazing is the $260.65 that we raised for The Kids Helpline.

Well done Glengarry Primary School!

Interschool Athletics Carnival

Ninety-five children from Year one to six attended this year's Interschool Athletic Carnival last term.

The carnival began with the Field Day on Friday, September 17.  The field events included jumps, throws, 200m and 400m runs and placed us fourth going into the main carnival.

Those who had participated in the Field events, were very glad to see a substantial tent set up for us on arrival at Joondalup Arena for the carnival no Monday, September 20.  All participants ran hard and performed well in the team games.

Overall, we placed sixth and were pleased to see so many children being good sports.

SunSmart

Students must wear their navy blue 'bucket' hats in Terms 1 and 4 when not undercover.

Beginning next week, students not wearing their hats at recess and lunch time will be directed to an undercover area.  Please ensure your child's hat is labelled with their name so that it may be returned to them promptly if found.

Integrity

Integrity is being honest, fair, and doing the right thing even when it is hard or when no one is looking.  People with integrity do what is right because they truly desire to do good, not because they fear getting into trouble.  When we have integrity people know they can trust us because we live out our values and this results in having strong relationships with others.

Tips for teaching children integrity:

  • Model integrity and lead by your example by being honest, kind, respectful, and loyal
  • Be specific when describing character to children
  • Provide examples of integrity through books, movies, and real-life people who act with integrity
  • Set appropriate boundaries and monitor the influences in your child’s life (who does your child spend time with, what media influences are they exposed to, are these inputs positive or negative)
  • Discuss values with your child and reward respectful and honest behaviour
