Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Yesterday afternoon our staff Professional Learning session was focused on staff wellbeing and was led by Jo and Kate from Growing Minds.  They are using a Positive Psychology model to support our staff to reflect on, monitor and implement strategies that support our wellbeing and mental health.  We have committed to working with them once each term for the next couple of years so that we can look after ourselves and each other.

ANZAC Day Ceremonies

Last Friday we had a short ANZAC ceremony during assembly.  Summer Kipping read The Ode and Mrs Sketcher played the Last Post and Reveille.  Students and staff observed a moment’s silence.  Thank you to our school captains who also lay a wreath as part of the ANZAC service in Mansfield on Sunday.

Michael Carr-Gregg – Resilience and Wellbeing

Next week we are supporting an event coordinated by St Mary’s Primary School.  Dr Michael Carr-Gregg is coming to Mansfield to speak to local school staff about resilience and student wellbeing.  He is also running a free parent session at 7:00pm on Wednesday May 5th at the Performing Arts Centre.  If you would like to attend the parent session, you can register here.  More information on the poster attached.

IGA Community Rewards

Next week I will be attending a presentation of Community Rewards funding from Marks IGA.  Mansfield Primary School will receive $1700 that will be spent directly on resources that will support our students.  Thank you to Stephen and Greg for the program and to all those people who donate their rewards points to Mansfield Primary School.  If you shop at the IGA and would like to donate rewards points please speak to one of the IGA staff.

State Swimming

Congratulations to Seb Walker, Kezi Wolfe and Jarrah Jackson.  They competed in the State Swimming Championships in Melbourne on Monday.  Many of our classes were able to watch the races online and cheer for our swimmers.  Isn’t it amazing that we can watch Primary School State Swimming on the TV?

Music Scholarship

Radio Mansfield has announced an annual music scholarship.  This is a great opportunity for our students.  Please see the notice attached if you are interested.

Uniform

Could families please support us to ensure that students come to school in full school uniform.  This is particularly important for senior students as they set an example for the rest of our kids.  If you are seeking an exemption for your child, please email it to me.  We have second-hand jumpers available for purchase at the school office.

Like always, please get in touch with us with any questions or concerns.  Call or email your classroom teacher, call the front office or email me tom.macmunn@education.vic.gov.au.

Have a great weekend.

Take Care,

Tom

Year 6 Transition

Last Friday the year 6s of Mansfield Primary School went to Mansfield Secondary Collage, and talked to Mr. Hough, the Year 7 coordinator. It was great to see what Secondary College is like. It seemed like a fun new environment. It was a very quiet working space and all the students looked happy.

Last Tuesday, the Grade 6s from around Mansfield came to the Mansfield Secondary Collage Information Night.  Parents and students were welcomed. The principal and the Year 7 coordinator talked about what happens in Year 7 and through to Year 12. It gave awesome information to parents about the Secondary College and how it works!

(! Thanks to the school - we all love the chairs!)

STATE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

A big congratulations to Kezi Wolfe, Jarrah Jackson and Seb Walker for competing at the State Swimming Championships on Monday 26th April. All 3 students were sensational on the day and should be very proud of their accomplishment, making it to STATE!!!! Thank you to all the parents who came to help cheer on their children and the students and teachers back at school who watched and cheered from their classrooms ?.

Jolly Joggers IS BACK!

Jolly Joggers is a running club, which will be held every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 8:40ish until 9:00am.

The Sport Captains and I will make the announcement in the morning, inviting all students to meet at the entry gate (Nobian side). They will then walk down with me to Lords Oval and run laps. Every lap gets them points (and stickers and stamps) for their House.

The Sport captains may have themes some weeks, with big points up for grabs ?

CHRIS DEUTSCHER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Radio Mansfield is pleased to announce the creation of two annual music scholarships in honour of one of our founding members, Chris Deutscher, who passed away in 2018.

The first scholarship is for a primary aged student who has been undertaking music lessons for at least a year. The sum of $300 is for continued music education or towards the purchase/hire of an instrument.

The second grant is for a secondary aged student. The sum of $500 will be awarded in recognition of an achievement in music to date and, again, for the continuance of his/her own music education or towards an instrument or perhaps even to undertake a recording of their own work.

Entries close 1st July. Short listed and winning students will be given the opportunity to perform live on air. Further details and information are available on Radio Mansfield’s web site www.radiomansfield.org.au
