Last week I was fortunate enough to have been asked to participate in the school review for St Mary MacKillop College in Swan Hill for three days. While it is always good to see how other schools do things and to ‘borrow’ good ideas, it is also great to see how well things are operating back here at St Brigid’s.
This week, work starts on the final aspect of our redevelopment, the resurfacing of the basketball courtyard and a new shade area with additional student seating. Consequently, access to the school from the back gate (Coughlin Park entrance) will be restricted until this work is complete. Students will need to access the school from the front steps or from the Stadium Gate.
One of the Values we promote at St Brigid’s College is “Empowering”. What does this mean? Students (and families) at St Brigid’s should have a greater say on matters that impact on them. This can include taking ownership of their learning program. This means that individuals should reflect on what they need and begin a conversation with the school to negotiate how these needs may be met. This does not mean that all demands will be met or that everything requested can be provided. However, without a conversation, we can not know what your needs are and how we can best support these. You should feel empowered to ask.
Our Year 12 students final exams are almost concluded with the final exam on next Tuesday. The Year 12 students have been resilient and have persevered over the past 18 months of Remote Learning and we are very proud of them. I am very much looking forward to celebrating their achievements next Friday with a Mass at 5pm and a Dinner and Awards at the Horsham Golf Club at 7pm.
Year 11 Exams will start in just over a week and we wish them well as they move into the roles of the new leaders of St Brigid’s.
Next week the rescheduled Year 8 Camp will be on Wed – Friday and I am looking forward to going out on Thursday night to participate with this group.
Stay Safe
