Chisholm Need to Know

CAROLINE CHISHOLM COLLEGE

Sad news
Earlier this week, our beloved Science teacher Bozena Kozlowski (Mrs Koz) lost her husband, Tochillo, after a long illness. Mrs Koz has, for many years, been a beautiful example of humble service as she cared for her husband throughout his difficult journey. Please join with the rest of the community as we pray for the repose of the soul of Tochillo and pray that Mrs Koz will be comforted by God’s limitless love and mercy.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord
And may perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
Amen

A new baby for Mr and Mrs Sutton
Congratulations to Mitchell Sutton and his wife, Julia (ex-Chisholm student), who welcomed their first child, Harriet, into the world on Monday. We are delighted by the news, and in twelve short years we hope she will walk through these gates in our uniform!

Learning Ambitions
Thank you to the hundreds of parents and students who responded to our survey about our best hopes for our students’ capabilities upon graduation. We are working on a project to identify these, assess them and report them to the community. The top four ambitions were quite similar among staff, students and parents:

Students: communication, collaboration, quality thinking and leadership;
Staff: communication, collaboration, empathy and ethics;
Parents: communication, ethics, quality thinking and character strength.

It was also encouraging to note the number of parents who suggested that learning and living our Catholic Christian worldview and living as disciples of Jesus belonged on the list.  This has always been central to our purpose as a Catholic school and in partnership with parents, forms the foundation of everything else we do. In terms of assessment and reporting, however, it is not appropriate to measure and report on a young person’s faith or lived discipleship. That is a private matter for families. As always, Dr Elliott is very happy to discuss these matters with parents directly.

Replacement Teachers
From time to time, your daughter’s teacher will be unavailable to teach her class. This may be due to illness, scheduled long-service leave or participating in a training course. Whilst it is ideal to have the teacher present for every single lesson, the College ensures that replacement teachers are well prepared to keep the learning going. We are blessed with fantastic, experienced casual teachers who know the College and the students very well. With the use of online platforms such as Google classroom, Atomi and others, students can continue to work hard on achieving their learning goals.

We regularly interview and employ new casual teachers. If you are aware of excellent, faith-filled people who would like to work in an exciting community like ours, please encourage them to contact the College. If you have any questions about how we are managing replacement teachers, please contact Ms Scollard, Assistant Principal.

A reminder that these meetings will be held via zoom. Emails with details about booking interviews have been sent to parents and caregivers. We look forward to the opportunity to meet with you to discuss your daughter’s progress and learning achievements.
