2021 - Term 3 Week 2

Acknowledgement of Country

We would like to acknowledge Goulburn as an important meeting place that was inhabited, at first contact with Europeans, by the Gundungurra and Ngunawal people who are the traditional custodians of this land. We would like to pay respect to Elders both past, present and future, also extending that respect to other Aboriginal people present today on the land in which we meet, work and live.

News from the South

Welcome back to Term 3. We certainly did not expect to return to school under NSW Regional restrictions. Again COVID 19 has become a part of our everyday lives. You will see from the table below that at the time of this newsletter we are currently in Level 2 restrictions, as we have learnt in recent weeks though, this can change quite quickly. We are currently following the level 2 guidelines. Staff are wearing face masks as recommended and students are also welcome to wear face masks too if they would like but, it is not compulsory. We are encouraging students to maintain hygiene standards consistently such as washing hands and sanitizing regularly. If your child is showing even the mildest of cold and flu symptoms please do not send them to school. It is recommended that they are COVID tested. Students can return to school with a negative test result and free from cold and flu like symptoms. Also in line with Level 2 restrictions we advise that non essential personal are not permitted onto the school grounds, this includes parents/carers. We are therefore holding assemblies as before via Zoom. We will provide parents with the Meeting Id and password before the assembly on Wednesday.

With Level 2 restrictions in place we will be assessing each event that we have booked in to determine if we will postpone/cancel or continue. Events such as the Athletics Carnival have been changed to accommodate the COVID protocols, such as scanning the QR Code and maintaining social distancing. The District Carnival at this time will still be going ahead, again following COVID protocols and social distancing. It will be decided at the end of July if the Year 5/6 camp with go ahead based on the Greater Sydney lock down situation. Other events at the school will be assessed as mentioned above as each one gets closer and based on the restrictions in place at the time. We thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as we work through these times.

NSW School Restrictions

Toys

We are seeing more students bringing teddies and toys to school. We recommend that students leave these at home. We have play equipment and resources available for students during our breaks. Please leave your personal items at home where they are safe and will not be broken or ruined. If a student brings their toys to school they will be asked to put them in their school bag till the end of the day and asked to leave at home.

SKOOL BAG APP

SKOOL BAG APP

We would like to encourage parents to use the free app SKOOL BAG. Skoolbag is Australia's trusted school communication app, connecting parents with their students school. Thousands of Australian schools use Skoolbag to engage parents through a simple, central communication platform. The easy-to-use desktop and mobile app streamlines all aspects of organising school life, from newsletters and events to student attendance and documentation. We have a growing community of parents that are using the app and would like to encourage more. See the details below on how to install the app.

K/3 R News

K-3B have had a good start to Term 3!

We are very lucky to be a part of a special music program run by Mrs Dunn who visits our class each Wednesday. Mrs Dunn is teaching us all about music and how we can include music in our everyday life. We have been learning how to play the recorder and we are very excited to begin moving up the recorder karate belt levels as we progress with our music. We love having Mrs Dunn come in and she will be coming in each week until the end of term. We kicked off our lessons this term with some physical education through music. We had to listen to the beat of a Star Wars song and move a big parachute to the music, including lifts, galloping and shaking. We even got to do a big finale and make a mushroom with the parachute that we could all sit underneath. Next we had to listen to a clapping pattern including single, double and rest beats. We then had to use our scooter boards to get us to the other end and choose the music card that matched the clapping beat. We had so much fun!

Also this term we are listening to our class novel ‘Charlotte’s Web by E.B.White’. We will be using this text to learn all about life on a farm, animals, life cycles and we will link it to our Creative Arts program. So far we are enjoying the book and we are looking forward to the lots of exciting activities to come throughout the term!

KM News

KM has had a very busy start to Term 3! They have been investigating money- cents, dollars and coins. They have also been working hard on solving addition problems and explaining how they solve the equation. KM produced a  concentric heart artwork after listening to a story ‘In My Heart’ which discusses the feelings our heart experiences. They also viewed the concentric circle artwork by Kandinsky. Remember to keep practicing tricky words and home reading KM?
