Last week we had a few students with a tummy bug and I reminded students at Assembly to wash their hands after going to the toilet and before they eat food.  The school is still being cleaned during the day so we should not be seeing too many viruses around.

The K’s, P’s, 2’s, 5’s and 6’s have all dropped attendance percentages.  Year 1 and year 3 students have maintained their attendance percentage and the awesome Year 4 students have gone up a percent.  Well done Year 4 students.  You are super stars!!

Remember every day counts and you need to be at school higher than 90% of the time or you will be missing important skills and concepts necessary for the following year.

Let’s get those percentages up over 90 again.

Parents, remember to send us notification as to why your child is absent so it can be recorded accurately on our system.

NAPLAN Testing

I am so proud of all the students in Year 3 and Year 5 who sat the NAPLAN tests.  You were all very well behaved, respected each other during testing and tried your hardest.  Well done everyone.  I think the change to using iPads made it easier for you to use and so you were more comfortable and excited to use the iPad.  A big thank you to Mr Ayres and Mr Stoneman, for being my Test Administrators and to everyone else, for being respectful during testing and walking quietly around the school.

Remember, NAPLAN is a one off test that only looks at how well you do on the day.  Your teacher has a more detailed knowledge of your ability. Hopefully we will receive results soon and parents will be given a pamphlet with your results.

Walk to School Day

Well done to all those students who walked to school last Friday.  Walking is a very healthy activity to do and it also helps keep your mind happy too.  I hope you liked your special tattoo and had fun walking with your friends and family.  Walking to school every day gets you physically and mentally ready for the day.

CHOIR

Massed Choir Festival: Rehearsals are Thursdays 8.00am

Our weekly Choir rehearsals have been getting off to pleasing starts with most students ready to begin rehearsing at 8.00am. Please make sure you are ready to sing at 8.00am sharp!

It is wonderful that our students have been practising at home via the website www.massedchoirfestival.org.au (password: concert).

Last chance: Week 5 will be the last week that students can join the Choir for the Massed Choir Festival- so if you want to be part of this exciting opportunity, be ready to sing at 8.00am Thursday in the Music Room!

Solo and Compere opportunities: There is an opportunity to audition for vocal solo and compere parts. What a great experience to sing or speak in front of a 500 strong choir and audience, at the Perth Concert Hall! I will meet with interested students at lunch times on Fridays to prepare them for an audition with me. Then, the 2 students selected from Rawlinson for vocal solo and for compere parts will go on to audition further with the Festival organisers. All vocal solo and compere parts can be found on the website for practice at home.

See you on Thursday!

AUSSIE OPTIMISM WORKBOOKS

It has been great to see lots of families purchasing the Aussie Optimism workbooks from the office via Qkr, Eft or cash over the last few weeks.

Aussie Optimism is a program that our school has identified as an integral part of our Health program.

At the moment, nearly 90% of Yr 1 – 6 students have a workbook and are ready to begin the program in their class.  We have 45 workbooks in the office waiting to be purchased for $13.50 by students who do not yet have one.

A note was previously sent home with students who do not yet have a workbook.

If your child does not purchase a workbook, they will still participate in lessons, though will not have access to all of the materials that will enable them to gain MAXIMUM BENEFIT from the program.

Thank you

Clinton Ayres

Deputy Principal

LIFE EDUCATION

HEALTH TIPS

BEDWETTING

Bedwetting, or nocturnal enuresis, is very common in children.   Bedwetting has nothing to do with dreaming, and children who wet the bed are not “just being lazy”.  If your child wets the bed, there are a number of things you can do to help, such as using a waterproof mattress cover and establishing a before-bed toilet routine.  It is not helpful to punish children who wet the bed. Fluids should not be restricted, even before bedtime. Sugary or caffeinated drinks should be avoided.   If your child is still wetting the bed after five and a half years of age, seek help through a referral by your local doctor.  A bedwetting alarm is an effective and safe method of treatment available for nocturnal enuresis and may be appropriate for your child.  Contact your local Community Health Nurse or Community Health Centre, for more information.
