Catholic Faith and Life

Feast Day of St Anthony of Padua

Sunday 13 June is the Feast Day of the patron saint of our parish and school, St Anthony of Padua.  St Anthony is one of the most renowned and loved saints in the Catholic Church (in fact, when our 2019 school leaders had the opportunity to meet our Bishop, Vincent Long, he told them that St Anthony was his favourite saint!).

St Anthony was well known, particularly in Italy, for his preaching.  Many stories have also been told and recorded about his care for the poor, the sick, groups divided by conflict, as well as his brother friars of the Franciscan religious order.  Our school motto, Word and Deed,  clearly reflects the example of St Anthony, and is a reminder to us all to follow that example in living out the mission of Jesus.

St Anthony's Day is also an opportunity for us to give thanks to God for our community, placed in the care and patronage of St Anthony.  As we were unable to celebrate our school's 70th anniversary last year as planned, and we continue to celebrate 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia throughout 2021, St Anthony's Day takes on extra significance.

As St Anthony's Day falls on a Sunday, we are celebrating next Friday, 11 June.  You will have already received information about our celebrations for the day, and you can find these details and more later in this newsletter.  We warmly invite you to join us for our open classrooms, family picnic morning tea, and celebration of Mass.

A "feast day" in Catholic tradition is a day of festival.  In many cultures, the feast day of a significant saint is a cause for great celebration.  We look forward to celebrating a great day of festival and celebration next Friday.

Living Life to the Full - Our New Religious Education Curriculum

Today, Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta released the latest draft of our Religious Education curriculum.  Many of you will be aware that this curriculum is the product of a long process of development, which St Anthony's has been proud to contribute to since the beginning.

The latest draft reflects feedback from parents, teachers, students and priests, as well as professional advice from experts in Catholic theology and Religious Education.  It is another step towards the full implementation of the finalised curriculum in 2022.

View a message from Bishop Vincent Long, officially naming and launching the latest draft of our new Religious Education Curriculum, Living Life to the Full.
