Term 2 Week 5: Monday 17th May 2021

Principal's Message

Welcome to Week 5!

This week I have the pleasure of joining The Dent family at Parramatta in celebration with our diocese of 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia. This is quite a milestone. Catholic Education has been a significant element of the education and faith landscape of Australia. Congratulations to all those including our students who have made Catholic Education in Australia so amazing.

Our students will  complete their Naplan assessments tomorrow. Well done children. What a great way of showing and celebration how clever you are!

Part of the curriculum for all primary students is the subject of PDHPE. Part of that subject is to work with students in developing healthy selves and relationships. Students in the upper grades are set, as they always have, to cover personal development topics. We continue to respect parents as prime educators of their children. As such when a child poses a sensitive question, teachers will generally invite the student to discuss this at home with their families. This note is just a 'heads-up' if your child does come home asking questions.

We have finally been able to schedule some onsite events starting with the disco in two weeks. Information regarding this is below. We know how much the children really enjoy discos. Be sure to prepare your child for the disco setting to ensure they enjoy the evening.

With appreciation for your ongoing support,

Stephen Dowd

Principal

Learning at MIPS

Year 6 Debating Team

Debate Topic: TV is better than books (MIPS were the negative team).

On Thursday, 6th May, 4 debaters from Mary Immaculate went to Our Lady of the Angels, Rouse Hill, for their first debate. The team showed respect for the opposing school and their debating team. All students represented the school with pride.

The first speaker was Aarya N, the second speaker was Guerkum D and the third speaker was Jake T, with the refuter Shaurya Tanwar.

Aarya spoke about enhancing imagination, that books give more detail and information than TV and that books are able to be read again.

Ekum spoke about the physical health benefits of the reader of books. He also stated that you can read at your own pace and sometimes really important scenes have been left out when a book has a movie or TV series.

Jake spoke about the negative effects of TV on your mental health, while refuting the opposing arguments and summarising the team’s ideas.

The result was fantastic- we WON! Congratulations to the entire Debating Team for their collaborative effort and representation on the day.

Debating Coordinator
