PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Volunteer Morning Tea

Today we celebrated all the volunteers that make a huge difference in our school.

We had a wonderful morning tea and each volunteer received a cute jar of Jelly Beans to say Thank You for all the hard work and support they do in the classrooms, on the sports fields and out at excursions.

You are appreciated by all staff and students!

Thank you to all staff for providing the morning tea and paying it forward, and also to Rozika and Michelle for the organisation behind the scenes.

URGENT - Students Leaving WLSS at the end of 2019

STUDENTS LEAVING END 2019 - We urgently require families to inform us if their child will be leaving WLSS before or at the end of 2019 (Reception to Year 6 children).

We are in the final stages of class placements for 2020 and fluctuating enrolment numbers have a significant impact on this process .

Please forward any information to Janet Massey - janet.massey644@schools.sa.edu.au

SD3 & SD4 - PAY IT FORWARD

St Bedes Drop In Centre

This term we have been working towards the curriculum of 'Paying it Forward'. We had a visitor named Jill come into the combined classes of SD3 and SD4 to tell us about an organisation at the St. Bede’s Church, Semaphore called the St. Bede’s Drop-in Centre. The Drop-in Centre is an organisation that provides breakfast to those in need.

As a class, we have collected some non-perishable foods that we will donate for their breakfasts.  For Health we were put in groups, and came up with a savoury breakfast muffin.  As a class we voted on which muffins we would rather make and we ended up voting on a Raspberry, Greek Yoghurt and Oat flavoured muffin.

The next day Ms Litchfield, our teacher, was kind enough to take our muffins and a card, made by Ava and signed by SD3, to the Drop-in Centre.

Ms Litchfield reported back to our class and told us about how much they appreciated our donation and how each and every person had a different story to tell. She said that they wanted her to stay and have breakfast with them and so what did do? She had breakfast with them.

We had so much fun making the muffins and St. Bede’s loved them too.

It is very unfortunate that there are so many people without homes, food and families but it’s so nice to see that one person can make a difference to impact on someone’s life.

    WLSS CHRISTMAS CONCERT

    CONTAINER OF HOPE

Continuing our theme of 'Paying it Forward', we will be collecting items for Container of Hope -an organisation that sends 40' shipping containers to schools, hospitals, orphanages and communities overseas, like India, Rwanda, Congo, Zambia etc and in Australia.

These containers are full of recycled and donated items that would normally end up in landfill - 'one mans trash is another mans treasure'.

We will be encouraging all classes to hold a stationary drive and gather unused or unwanted stationary for this cause.  Have a look around at home and put some items into a bag for your child to bring to school - some ideas are: Rubbers, rulers, paper, pencil sharpeners, exercise books, calculators (no batteries), display folders, pencil cases, staplers, staples, pens, pencils (writing and colouring), marker pens and reading books.

We will also be collecting at the front office the following (please make sure all items are clean and in a plastic bag):

    • Clothing, Shoes and Uniforms
    • Toys
    • Linen and towels
    • Craft and Paper
    • Musical and Sports equipment
    • Household items

If you have any large bulky items that you would like to donate please contact admin@containerofhope.com.au and they can arrange to collect it.
