Lismore South Public School Newsletter

Term 1 Week 2 & 3

Principal Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Nothing makes me smile more than visiting classrooms and witnessing students engaged in their learning and working cooperatively. Many children have shared how excited they are to be back. It has been great to see how many students are already tackling the year ahead with confidence, smiling faces and a 'can do' attitude. Although there have been some changes this year, the transition back to school has been smooth and positive.

Our 'Meet the Teacher' sessions have been scheduled for Tuesday 15th February at 4.30pm for Kindergarten and Thursday 17th February at 4.30pm for Years 1-6. This is the perfect chance to meet your child’s teacher and ask any questions about the new school year. We ask that only one parent attends the session and that you only enter our school if you are feeling well with no COVID symptoms. All parents and carers need to wear a mask and socially distance in the classrooms.

Thank you for keeping us informed of your children and family status in relation to COVID and your child’s return to school. We understand that there is a mixture of thoughts, concerns and anxieties around the current situation and students returning to school. We will continue to communicate with you regarding any COVID positive cases who have been on school grounds. The measures we are taking at school are aimed at keeping our school open and our students learning in the classroom.

Regards,

Larissa Polak

COVID19 Update

While Covid-19 is still circulating through our community, the NSW Department of Education has provided schools with masks, Rapid Antigen Tests and plenty of sanitiser to support us in our quest to keep students and staff safe and healthy.

While there will likely continue to be exposures both within school and the wider community, the school will aim to remain open. If there is an exposure in your child’s class or year group, a letter and Skoolbag announcement will be shared to advise that you should monitor for symptoms.

If someone in your household has COVID, your family is required to isolate for seven days.

Please do not send your child to school if:

• Someone in the household currently has Covid-19

• Someone in the household is waiting on a PCR test result

• The student is waiting on a PCR test result (you must remain in isolation until a negative result comes through)

• The student returns a positive RAT test result (this must be reported to the school and Service NSW via the app)

• The student has any symptoms at all associated with Covid-19.

If your child needs to stay home for any of these reasons, please contact the school and we can arrange for some school work to be completed.

Healthy Harold is coming!

All students in Years K-4 will be visiting the Life Education van. A permission note will be sent home next week.  We ask that families pay $5.00 per child.

School and Preschool Photos

School and Preschool Echidna group photos will be taken on Tuesday, 1st March.  Preschool Goanna group will have their photos taken on Thursday, 3rd March.  Photos need to be pre-ordered and paid for prior to photo day.  Order envelopes will be sent home soon.

Student Representative Council

Next Friday 18th February, students in Years 1 – 6 will be holding class elections for 2022 Semester One Student Representative Council.  If your child would like to nominate themselves, please have them prepare a 30 second speech about why they would be a good candidate to represent their class. Information regarding the badge assembly will be communicated soon.

School Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday 9th February we had our annual swimming carnival. It was a day filled with fun and friendly competition. All students should be extremely proud of their efforts. Well done to all students who were first timers, swam in a new event or did their personal best. Many thanks to staff who worked hard organising a great carnival, with a special shout out to Mrs Golding for her leadership as carnival coordinator. Scroll to the end of the newsletter for photos.

Ngulliboo Jarjums Preschool News

Welcome

We would like to welcome all our preschool families to Lismore South PS Ngulliboo Jarjums Preschool 2022. We look forward to developing relationships with families and engaging your child in rich learning experiences in a play based environment.

This Week at Preschool

This week we learnt about Chinese New Year and enjoyed watching traditional lion dances, learning greetings in Mandarin and painting pictures inspired by Chinese New Year banners in red, yellow and black. We also made Chinese lanterns to decorate our preschool and served up some yummy dumplings and fortune cookies in home corner.

Children have enjoyed exploring and engaging with their new environment through relationships and play. The sandpit has been very popular as children cooked some delicious food. Children have also enjoyed our fairy small world, constructing robots from recycled materials, building enclosures for dinosaurs out of blocks, making car tracks, play-dough and taking care of babies.

Fruit Break

Please pack a fruit or vegetable snack each day.

Mosquitoes

Recent wet weather has caused an abundance of mosquitoes in our outdoor environment. Our time outdoors can sometimes be impacted by mosquitoes biting and leaving little ones itchy. Please apply mosquito repellent to your child each morning or as an alternative long, loose-fitting clothing in lightweight fabrics can be worn.

Canteen

Canteen Price List

Canteen operates Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  Orders are placed before school.  Preschoolers hand their lunch order to their teachers on arrival.

P & C News
