Transition programs and 2021 Classes

The school is currently implementing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) group transition program which are providing opportunities for students to work with different teachers and students from other classes. These groups are supporting students for 2021 transitions.  We have a growing community and for this reason we need to consider establishing classes that will allow for student growth whilst working within our staffing and classroom entitlements set by the Department of Education.  Structuring classes for the New Year is a lengthy, well-planned and considered process that revolves around the needs of our students and how we as a school can best cater for them. As a school, we consider many aspects of student, cohort and school needs in order to structure our classes to maximise student learning. We have a requirement to meet many different Departmental Policies as well as maintaining our school vision and culture.

Class placement is a complex process especially in a growing community, with class sizes set by the Department of Education and school structures must take these policies into consideration when forming classes. If student numbers increase we will need to form another class or classes and therefore student movement may happen during the New Year. Therefore, the school is putting a lot of thought and forward planning to limit too many class changes throughout the year. Within Term 4 of this year, the school has enrolled a number of students and we have been able to manage and welcome our new families and students. At this point, teachers have not been allocated any classes as we are waiting for new staff to join us. Spring Farm Public School teachers are K to 6 trained and will be placed in different class years and stages each year. This is beneficial for their professional development and for the school community to view all of our teachers as having the skills to teach in all years.

Spring Farm Public School will look at different options for class formation. We may have straight grade classes, stage classes or cross stage classes. This all dependent on final student numbers and the allocations that we can work towards.

Being a good role model for our children

Unfortunately, I have had to address community members making accusations towards students or staff and writing slanderous things about school procedures on facebook community pages!

I expect my staff to treat parents and carers in a professional manner and I ask that this courtesy is reciprocated. As a parent myself, I understand the business of raising children can be quite emotional, however, stating slanderous or false accusation about staff or the school is unacceptable.

I thank the majority of our parents who are wonderful supporters of the staff and always speak appropriately or raise concerns in the appropriate manner and I thank you for this.

If you are feeling particularly emotional about an issue involving your child, you are more than welcome to speak with one of the Assistant Principal or to me. We take our commitment to the Spring Farm community and our students very seriously and we are always happy to work through issues with you.

Importantly, our children pick up on how parents and carers react and deal with various situations. It is important that we all model a high standard in how we communicate or deal with various situations in our lives, as this provides life skills for children to learn and deal with future issues.

Presentation Day

Presentation Day will be held on Thursday 10 December 2020. The school is working with Covid-19 guidelines and more information will be sent out once it is organised.  Spring Farm Public School will hold this end of year presentation ceremony to recognise outstanding effort and performances by students in Key Learning Areas. Presentation Day recognises the special and extraordinary efforts or achievements some of our students have made throughout the year. Teachers cross reference the data to specific criteria in order to decide on which student receives an award.  Letters to parents and carers are currently been sent out notifying that their child will receive a Presentation Day award.

 On Presentation Day

  •  Congratulate and acknowledge student achievement at a class level
  • Congratulate and acknowledge senior student achievement with the presentation of perpetual awards
  • Congratulate and acknowledge sporting champions for the year
  • Thank our out-going Captains and Prefects
  •  Induct and welcome our new student leaders (Captains and Vice Captains)
  • Reflect on a successful year at Spring Farm Public School

Implementing a new school behaviour flow chart procedure

In Term 3 2020, a draft spring Farm Public school’s behaviour flowchart in conjunction with the Department of Education’s draft Behaviour Policy was sent to all families via Operoo.   We asked for feedback through the survey so that the school can take on your suggestions and include them where possible within the behaviour flowchart which would also incorporate with the new behaviour policy from the NSW Department of Education.

We thank you for your responses and feedback and will make amendments where possible.  We also value individual parents or carers who want to directly provide feedback to contact the school and make a time to share your thoughts as we are currently seeking student feedback.
