Return to School Update

It was FANTASTIC to see all our students back together again on Monday.

Drop-off and pick-up

Drop-offs and pick-ups
  • To minimise large student cohorts, we are continuing the following process for morning drop off and afternoon pick up

Front gate - Students with a surname starting with M - Z

Karoburra Street gate - Students with a surname starting with A - L

OoSH - Because parents and carers are unable  to be on site, please call the OoSH number (0466 809 522) when you drop off and pick up your child and they will bring your child to the gate.

Parents and carers must follow advice regarding changes to student drop-off and pick-up. This includes:

  • staying in the car when dropping off and picking up children if it is safe to do so
  • following the physical distancing advice for their local area and avoid gathering outside school gates
  • remaining outside school grounds (some exceptions may exist for students with a disability)
  • adhering to mask-wearing requirements in accordance with the Public Health Order
  • signing in using the Service NSW QR code if entering the school (please call the school phone 49 711 543 before entering the site)

Masks and face coverings

Under Level 3 plus settings when schools return to sites but are still under stay-at-home rules, masks are required for staff. Masks are strongly recommended for primary students indoors (unless exercising or eating).

Staff and students required to wear masks may remove them when:

  • they are eating or drinking
  • engaging in strenuous physical exercise
  • they are communicating with another person who is deaf or hard of hearing
  • the nature of their work or learning:
    • makes the wearing of a fitted face covering a risk to their own, or another person’s health and safety, or
    • means clear enunciation or visibility of the person’s mouth is essential,
  • because of an emergency
  • when they are alone in an office or classroom.

Hygiene and Cleaning

Enhanced cleaning arrangements remain in place, which are:

  • additional daily clean provided to schools
  • day cleaners wipe down high-touch surfaces
  • schools and workplaces have supplies of hygiene products
  • ensuring bathrooms are well stocked with hand soap and paper towel
  • providing hand sanitiser where appropriate

Infection Control Measures

Stay at home when unwell. Staff and students must not attend school if they are unwell. This includes even minor flu like symptoms. If a student develops symptoms and becomes unwell during the school day, they will be taken to the sick bay area or other appropriate area. Arrangements must be made for them to be sent home or leave school in the care of an appropriate person as soon as possible.

Wash hands regularly and thoroughly. Maintaining good personal hand hygiene is the single most effective way to reduce the risk of transmission. Staff and students implement hand hygiene practices at regular intervals throughout the day. Maintain respiratory hygiene. Cover your cough or sneeze through coughing or sneezing into your elbow or a tissue, disposing of tissues immediately. Always wash your hands after you have coughed, sneezed or blown your nose.

Avoid shaking hands when greeting people.

Wipe down high touch surfaces. Wipe down desks and workspaces and the backs of chairs regularly.

Clean shared equipment. Avoid sharing personal items. Do not share personal items such as drink bottles and food.

Safe handling of food. Food items handled must follow protocols for safe food handling to prevent the spread of bacteria associated with food preparation and food products.

Waste Management. Dispose of tissues immediately after use into a waste bin.

Consider the environment. Provide fresh air or ventilation in classrooms.

Keep wipes or cleaning supplies handy for use throughout the day.  Establish hand washing routines. Staff and students to clean their hands before lunch and recess times and as they return to the classroom.

Activities that are not permitted or on hold

Schools must cease the following activities during school hours or within school grounds:

  • singing, chanting, group repetition and choirs

  • sport (except for sport within existing PDHPE classes, provided this limits student mixing)

  • interschool activities and events including interschool sport, gala days, trials, knock outs and carnivals

  • Scripture

  • assemblies

  • school performances, productions, concerts, speech nights and award presentations

  • excursions, camps, field trips and principal-endorsed activities for students

  • community events

  • P&C activities, including meetings (unless held online only)

  • all external providers and specialist programs not directly related to educational outcomes and support, including community use of school facilities (such as markets and all after school activities) unless delivered online only

Kindergarten 2022 - Enrol now

Children can start Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year if they turn 5, on or before 31 July that year. By law, all children must be in compulsory schooling by their 6th birthday. Remember Kindergarten is designed for children who are 5 years of age.

When your child starts school is an individual decision. You may wish to discuss this with your child's preschool teacher, carer, doctor or our school staff. Our teachers are trained to work with your child regardless of their age or level of development.

Children develop at different rates and learn skills in different ways. Your school will respond to the needs, learning styles and rates of progress of individual students. Schools also plan learning experiences based on the skills students bring with them to school.

We are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2022. To complete your online enrolment please visit our school website at https://pelicanflt-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/ and click on the ENROLMENT button at the top of the page. Please phone the school on 49711543 if you have any questions. Thank you. If you know of someone who has a child enrolling in 2022, please ask them to enrol online.

Book Week

We have had to postpone our Education Extravanza and Book Week assembly because of the current restrictions. Please continue to organise your costumes and we will organise another date soon.

Our Book Fair has also been postponed.
