Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a year! Resilience, perseverance and gratitude are the concepts that come to mind when I reflect on the year of 2021! We often speak to our students about the importance of resilience and each of them demonstrated it by the truckload this year, not just throughout the learning from home period, but also when dealing with the many changes and cancellations of events throughout the year.

Parents and carers, I can’t thank you enough for the support you have shown the school this year and I am very grateful to be working in a school where education is not only highly valued, but strongly supported. Thank you for working tirelessly to keep your children learning from home while juggling many other roles and thank you for the support and trust you provide in us each day when your most precious resource walks through the school gates. Covid aside, there are so many positives to be taken from the last 12 months and every child should be congratulated on their amazing efforts throughout the year. Everyone deserves congratulations for the progress they have made this year, be it academically, socially or emotionally.

Last week, we held our Presentation and Graduation assemblies and while they were in a very different format to previous years, each event highlighted the calibre of students we have had the pleasure of dealing with every day. Our Captains and Vice Captains did a superb job leading our Primary assembly and are to be congratulated on the way they have conducted themselves throughout the year. Thank you Amarli, Eben, Tia and Kayne! We also announced our 2022 student leadership team and congratulate Annabelle and Levi as Captains for 2022, alongside Jaya and Will as Vice Captains. We know, just like their predecessors, they will do an amazing job as leaders. In fact, Levi and Annabelle were thrown in the deep end the day after the announcement, faultlessly leading the Year 6 Farewell.

Thank you to our amazing teachers and support staff who have continued to go above and beyond for our students. I’m super excited about the staffing team we have put together for next year and know we will handle anything 2022 can throw at us!

On behalf of everyone at Team Tomerong, I wish all of our students a lovely festive season and lots of quality time with their loved ones.

Merry Christmas.

OFFICE NEWS

School Uniform & Shoes

This is a reminder to parents and carers that our school uniform provider is School Locker, an online purchasing facility based out of Liverpool. Parents can access a link to School Locker from the Parents and citizens association link on the Tomerong Public school website. A helpful ‘How To Order’ video can also be found here. Just a reminder that when purchasing new articles, please ensure you write your child’s name on each item.

If you are shopping for school shoes in the holidays, please remember our uniform policy states that students are to wear black shoes Monday – Thursday. Many students are choosing to wear black joggers Monday – Friday which is appropriate.

Lost Property

Thank you to all those who regularly check the lost property box for missing items. This week we will endeavour to have named items returned to their owners. Any items without names, will be washed and returned to the Second Hand Uniform Pool.

Thank you.

SPORTS SHORTS

2022 Swimming Carnival

Next year's school Swimming Carnival is booked for Friday 4 February, 2022. The carnival will be held at Bomaderry Pool and students can either travel by bus or be taken to the pool by their parents. A permission note with more information will be sent home early next year. This carnival is for those students who are turning 8 years of age in 2022 or older.

We are always in need of parent helpers for time keeping roles, so if you can assist on the day, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again to all the parents and helpers who assisted us with running our Sports carnivals this year. It was fantastic seeing children competing again and enjoying their sport.

Salvation Army Christmas Appeal Fundraiser

Thank you to everyone who got into the Christmas spirit yesterday and participated in our final fundraiser for the year. It was wonderful to see everyone so colourful and dressed up!

The SRC raised over $272 which has been donated to the ‘Salvation Army Christmas Appeal’. This cause provides families in need with a Christmas meal or gifts to celebrate Christmas, which they wouldn’t be able to afford. You can find more information on their website https://www.salvationarmy.org.au/christmas/get-involved-this-christmas/.

A huge thank you also to St Georges Basin IGA, who kindy donated the ice blocks which were sold and contributed greatly to our fundraising.

Merry Christmas and have a happy and safe holiday!
