Start of a New Year for Students

What a great opportunity to form new friendships! Everyone is starting a new year, with a new teacher (for most) and a new classroom and many will be looking for new friendships too. Some children choose a new ‘best friend’ every year at school which builds a rich network of friendships over the years.  Remember that children learn different skills from different classmates.  You can gently help them make new friends and grow as an individual at the same time.

If, after a couple of weeks, your child doesn’t seem to be settling in or is still anxious about their new class, by all means drop a note to the teacher or make an appointment to chat.  Teachers are very busy preparing for the day, so making an appointment is essential so you have their undivided attention. These conversations with your child’s teacher will help to support your child’s needs.

Experienced parents and teachers tell us that more than likely than not, your child will be absolutely fine and will have developed a new level of resilience from spreading their wings a little.

COVID -19 School Communication Protocol, Mask Wearing and Rapid Antigen Tests

It was great to see the majority of our students return last week.  We are very grateful to the families who are choosing to keep their children at home due to displaying signs of illness or following advice of Queensland Health. We encourage all families to follow their lead and please keep your child at home if they are displaying any signs of an illness.

What will communication look like if we are aware of a COVID-19 case in our school?

In our communication with you, we will be as transparent as possible while still maintaining the right to privacy of affected school community members. Please understand our whole school communications will not disclose the names of affected community members to ensure their right to privacy. In the event of a positive COVID case in a class, we will contact all parents and caregivers via Skoolbag and email.  The health and safety of our children is paramount. We ask all families to trust in this process and understand we will communicate with you in a timely manner.

When there is a confirmed case in your child's class, you do not need to come and collect them. We just ask that you monitor them, as you have been, for any signs of illness and take appropriate measures to follow QLD Health Guidelines.

I am happy to confirm that we do have a supply of Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) which can be used for staff or students who display symptoms while at school and are required to go home and take a test. It is important to understand we are not an official distributor of the RAT and can only provide tests to those children or staff as indicated above.

As well as receiving our supply of Rapid Antigen Tests we have also received our supply of masks. Although mask wearing is encouraged in primary schools, it is not mandated. Parents can advise their child to wear a mask while at school. The school has masks to offer in every classroom if students would like one.  All they need to do is ask the class teacher.

Clearly COVID-19 is not disappearing and will continue to ‘plague’ our lives for some time to come.  Let’s all continue to work together to ensure that our school community stay as safe and healthy as can be.

Student Recognition

Do you know a student who has achieved something special in our community? Perhaps they have achieved at an elite level at sport, participated in an eisteddfod or competition or represented themselves proudly at a community activity? Please email me at admin@peachesterss.eq.edu.au and let us know so that we can acknowledge your child in our school newsletter.

Year 2/3 - Settling In

We have had a very busy start to the 2022 school year settling into our new 2/3 class! We have had some fun learning about different language features like nouns, verbs and adjectives. We created our own monsters and used adjectives to describe them. It was a fun game trying to match our monsters to our descriptions!

Year 3/4 News

Year 3/4 - Settling In

Thank you to families for helping to making this delayed start to 2022 so smooth. The students have settled in brilliantly.

We are moving swiftly ahead in all learning areas.

Home work has gone out this week. It is due back on Monday. New homework will be sent out on Tuesday.

I will be in the classroom from 8:30 every morning if students are struggling with the homework or haven’t had a chance to finish it at home.

We are working hard on the practice of bringing in reading folders every single day. This where all notes, homework as well as books will be sent home from.

If students have read a book that is not from school, I encourage families to write it in their reading log and sign it.

Every book students finish can then become part of their reading chain in the classroom.

I have attached a photo of the work completed in art class this week. Students were making rubbings of different textures around the school. This was a great hands on and practical way to explore the idea of texture in art😊

Year 5/6 News

Year 5/6 - Leadership & Settling In

The Leadership ceremony took place on Thursday 18th February.

Mrs Fillery and Mr Andrew Powell gave speeches, presented badges and acknowledged our 2022 school leaders. There was also cake.

Our School Captains, Ashton and Darby are excited about representing the school in the official ceremonies such as Anzac Day and sporting activities, setting up fundraisers and assisting the younger students to join in and participate here at school.

Our Coochin  sports house captains, Cashius and Sienna, along with our Stanley sports house captains, Anna and Ruby, are all keen to help Mrs Westrup with the sports carnival and other activities. They are all excited about organising and supervising other games and activities for the students here at school.

Our Environmental captains , Harriet and Oscar are excited about doing the chickens and helping in Enviro Club with Mr Laurence.

Our Library Captains, Sophie and Violet are excited to help Ms Michelle in the library and host other events such as Book Week  and colouring competitions.

Our student leaders are very quickly finding out just how busy their peers were last year. With a class full of role models to support them we know they are excited about their roles and we know that they will do a great job.

On top of this we have been very busy establishing our classroom and setting ourselves up with the very best learning environment that we can have. To support this, we collaborated to set up our three classroom promises to each other. They are: to allow everyone to share their ideas, to ask questions when we need to and to try our best in everything that we do.  So far we are doing well supporting each other.
