Term 4 Week 9

Acknowledgement of Student Learning

We will be holding our end of year Presentation Day Assemblies on Monday 13 December in our small school hall. We are very pleased that this event is able to take place in person and on our school site. As you can appreciate, however, there are still significant Covid related restrictions we must adhere to. We have a robust Covid Plan in place which allows us to have class presentations as well as one parent per student attend. We understand that this is problematic however it is essential that we follow guidelines.

Information has been sent home through Skoolbag on the times of each class assembly. Each assembly will be recorded for viewing on a private network platform  at home.  We understand that not all parents can take time off work.

Melrose Park acknowledges all students for their efforts in learning throughout the year and each student is awarded a Certificate of Merit. We are very proud of all students and look forward to having all students stand on the day to be congratulated on their success, their improvements and their attitudes to learning.

Year 6 students will celebrate their graduation in the evening followed by a Year 6 farewell on school grounds, all within covid restrictions.

STEM Learning in Year 6

Transition 2022

Congratulations to our newest students who have been coming to school as part of the 2022 Kindergarten transition program. Whilst our program is operating differently this year, our young students have been enthusiastic and engaging in learning all about 'big school.

This week our last activities will be exploring books and stories in the library and  having fun with math activities in the Kindergarten classroom.

If you are aware of young children moving into our school area, please let them know about our great school for enrolment in 2022.

Tales from the Library

It has been a wonderful year of learning in the library. As our year draws to a close, I would like to kindly remind everyone to search for overdue library books. Notices reminding students of books they have borrowed have been sent out.

Earlier this year, many students participated in the Premiers Reading Challenge (PRC). We had outstanding results with students receiving Gold and Platinum certificates. Gold certificates are awarded to those students who have completed the challenge four times. Platinum certificates are awarded to those students who have completed the challenge seven times.

The following students will be receiving Gold certificates:

Year 3 – Larisa, Ziah, Menzies, Aarav, jade, Ashleigh, Ryan, Darcy, Ava, Xavier, Timmy, Bella.

Year 4 – Ruby, Megan, Alice, Tia, Oskar.

Year 6 - Owen

The following students will be receiving Platinum certificates:

Year 6 – Makayla, Chiara R., Kai, Sophie T., Saahil.

Well done to all of these students!

Celebration Day

Notes have been sent home to families explaining how students and staff will celebrate and acknowledge the end of the school year.

On Wednesday 15th December we will be participating in a Celebration Day across the school. This day acknowledges and rewards students for the amazing year of learning everyone has experienced.

Students will have the opportunity to make a special treat, play on an inflatable obstacle course and enjoy a yummy lunch with an order from Subway.

We hope all students attend school for a great day of fun and laughter with friends.

Sporting Schools

Our school was successful in obtaining a Sporting Schools grant this term. Our focus for skill development is in the area of volleyball. Students from Year 1 -6 will be introduced to new ball skills and game skills in volleyball over the next few weeks.

Volleyball and Newcombe Ball are two games that are played in the Ryde PSSA competition.

Salvation Army Christmas food and gift appeal

This year OOSH and the school will work together with your help to collect food, toiletries and gifts for families in need on behalf of the Salvation Army.

Last year’s amazing effort meant we were able to donate 13 baskets full of food and gifts and we cannot express how grateful we are to each Melrose Park family who helped out. This year we would love to top our effort, after what has been a challenging year for many people.

If you would like to donate, there are baskets at the Mary St and Wharf Rd entrance or drop in at the OOSH centre. Donations will close on December 14th.

Thank you
