FRIDAY 9TH APRIL - PUPIL FREE DAY

From the Principal

Dear Parents/Carers,

Wasn’t Sports Day fantastic!!

Thank you to all of the parents/carers and friends who joined us and congratulations to Yorke (Green) who won the Championship shield led by their Thiele Captain - Jayden J. Murray (Blue) won the Spirit Shield led by Thiele Captain - Jacob R. Congratulations to Eyre (Yellow) and Flinders (Red) who were also led by Thiele Captains – Isabella C and Lachlan S.

Next week we welcome Beth Mowat into our library. Beth will be working on Monday’s and Tuesday’s along with Carol who works on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s. We are looking forward to welcoming Beth into our school and Campus community.

James Geoghan, Chris Gent and Jo Chesson have enjoyed some leave over the past weeks and we have welcomed Sarah Laurence and Dale Bliss teaching T10, Diane Christie teaching T12 and Todd Shearer teaching T8. All of these teachers are familiar with our students and school routines. Jo and Chris have returned from their leave, however, Chris will be coaching SAPSASA softball in week 10 and will be taking leave at the end of this term.

Our journey towards world class education by working towards making every student great by 2028 is continuing through Aaron, Emma and Lisa attending Brightpath professional development in the area of Persuasive writing. Chris, Amy, Lauren, Lisa and myself are attending the Berry Street Education Model and sharing our learning experience at staff meetings with the rest of our staff to improve our teaching and learning for all of our staff and students.

Kind Regards,

Sharon Willoughby

Principal

Pastoral Care Worker - Roslyn

Dear Families,

It's hard to believe we are half way through first term already! It has been so good to be back with the students in 2021 and great to get to know our new students who have settled in well and already knowing their way around. For those of you who don’t know me, I am the Pastoral Care Worker at Thiele Primary School. In my role, I am here to provide support for anyone in the school community – students, staff and families. Some of that involves checking in with students who might be finding things difficult at school or at home or resourcing families who might need support. If you would like to find out more about my role, or just want to stop and chat, I would love to catch up

This term Kimochi lessons have started in some year 1 & 2 classes. Kimochi means feelings in Japanese and these lessons give students an imaginative and fun way to explore what feelings are about and how we can enjoy the ones we like and make the ones that are 'hard to have' smaller and more manageable. Practicing how to notice, be ok with and regulate big feelings is something we all learn; generally through trial and error or re-learning years later when new challenges come along. Sometimes the simplest tools can help us.

Technology is another thing which can at times bring up big feelings fast. The e-Safety Commissioner’s website has some excellent resources for parents. One of them is a recently released book for younger users called Swoosh, Glide and Rule Number 5 which you can look at online or download to your device. It's under 'Educators' and then 'online safety picture book' on the website - https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/children-under-5/picture-book-and-song

The main message is to ask for help.

Have a great shorter week

Kind regards,

Roslyn Schmarewski
