Scotts Head Public School Newsletter

Term 2 | Week 2 | 28 April 2021

Principals Column

Welcome all families to Week 2,

An outstanding, breathtaking level of student leadership was witnessed at our local ANZAC Day Dawn Service led and run by Scotts Head Public School students on Sunday morning overlooking Little Beach. As the sun was rising our Year 6 student leaders conducted the service with poise and confidence beyond their years.  The student body choir who performed the song “Lest We Forget” and the National Anthem showed absolute commitment throughout rehearsals while promoting respect and fortitude during their performance on the morning. What a wonderful opportunity to unite our community in an act of remembrance, congratulations to all students involved with making it a success.

In alignment with Departmental upgrades our school has been commissioned to receive a new boundary fence. The site works have been carried out and the contractors have been approved. The work will commence in two weeks and again it will be a time of change for the interface of Scotts Head Public School. The changes most apparent will be the removal of the existing paperbark trees surrounding the front gate and down towards the double gates on Vernon Street. The removal of these trees is sadly unavoidable. The only positive slant is that the building closest to these highly flammable trees is our whole school safe space in the event of bushfire. I look forward to the vision and input from our school community in re-establishing landscaping along our Vernon Street entrance once the installation is complete. We welcome extensive practical input to enhance and improve on the vista of Scotts Head Public School. The remainder of the fence line trees will stay in place except for overhanging branches along Gloucester Street. The fence will include security entrance gates with CCTV cameras for security purposes. Most NSW Public schools now have been upgraded with these facilities. I would like to form a landscaping group to maximise the future potential for the front of SHPS moving forward after the fence has been established, please contact the school if you are interested.

Congratulations to all our District Cross Country competitors who all put in 100% effort last Friday at Bowraville. The course proved challenging for all competitors who narrowly avoided bovine deposits while navigating through gullies up hills and across treacherous terrain.

Bakso Bakso Bakso yay! Bakso day will be held this Thursday 29 April at lunch time for all students. The Indo team are providing a great opportunity to taste the food of Indonesia.

School Netball

Congratulaions to our first ever Scotts Head PS Netball Team!

10 girls participated in the PPSA Knock-out Competition, playing against the team from Frank Partridge PS at the Macksville Courts on Wednesday 21 April 2021.

It was a tough game and the girls did an amazing job of working together and trying their hardest. It was great to see some first-timers join the team and the more experienced players were wonderful mentors, helping train the new players and teach them the rules. The team captains, Mirranya and Matilda, are already planning more training sessions to prepare the team for next year!

Well done to all the players for being such great sports and representing our school proudly: Freya, Bella, Sienna, Kaydee, Lyla, Zali, Narli, Frieda, Matilda and Mirranya (as well as Lior and Taysha who trained with the team but were unable to play on the day).
