From the Principal

Student Success:

Congratulations to our talented swimmers who will compete at the Regional Swimming Carnival tomorrow -  Liam B, Miley B, Charlotte C, Isaac P, Layla P, and Lotte S.  We wish you all the best!

School Photos:

Our school photos will be taken tomorrow. Please ensure you have pre-ordered photos to avoid a late fee.  Please also ensure that they are wearing full school uniform, including black shoes.

Year 6 Fundraiser:

This Friday 5th March will be an out-of-uniform day across the school to support our Year 6 Mini Fete.  Students are asked to bring in a chocolate in lieu of wearing uniform which will then be used on the Lob-a-Choc Stall at the Fete.

P&C Meeting:

Our next P&C meeting will be held in the school library on Wednesday 10th March at 6pm. I encourage all interested parents to come along for the meeting.

Random Acts of Kindness:

This year, the P&C are running a Random acts of Kindness program. Each fortnight, the name of a family will be drawn out of a barrel. That family will receive a $25 voucher at a local café or restaurant. The first random Acts of Kindness winner is the family of Kallib Rush! Congratulations and thank you to our wonderful P&C for organising the initiative and to Linda Barnier for sourcing the prizes.

Road Safety:

Just a reminder to encourage your child to cross the road in Mills St at the crossing. We had a near miss recently when a parent called a student across the road directly to the car. The student had to walk out behind the bus, so oncoming traffic could not see them. To keep everyone safe, please remind your child to use the crossing.

Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) Agreement:

I am pleased to say that the Department of Education and the AECG have signed a new partnership agreement to ensure every Aboriginal student in the state achieves their potential in education. The agreement, which is outlined later in the newsletter, is an important strategy to work together to have the best outcome for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students both in our school and across the state.

Library News

2021 Student Librarians:

The wait is over and our Year 6 Student Librarians will be announced at this week’s Year 3-6 assembly. I am looking forward to working with them all this year and I know they will do a wonderful job.

Thank you to students for remembering to return library books and for having library bags with them for their lessons over the past 2 weeks. An additional thank you to the generous family who donated some bags which I can loan to students who have forgotten theirs. All donations of bags suitable for borrowing are most welcome and appreciated as having students borrowing and reading is our priority!

The 2021 Premier’s Reading Challenge opened today. All students are automatically entered into the challenge with students in Kindergarten to Year 2 completing the challenge in library. Students in Years 3 to 6 are responsible for completing their own personal reading logs but I will explain and demonstrate how to do this during our lessons over the next couple of weeks. For further information about the 2021 Premier’s Reading Challenge, please see the website.

Happy Reading
