Term 2 Week 3: Monday 3rd May 2021

Principal's Message

This week is again a big one at MIPS. We celebrate mums on Friday. Please join us on site for Friday morning for a presentation, blessing, open classrooms, stall and a picnic lunch. Importantly, attendees are to complete the contract tracing from via the QR code at the school entrances and maintain social distancing.

Tomorrow we welcome educational visitors from Padua College, Queensland coming to learn from us regarding effective pedagogy for student learning.

On Thursday, we will meet with our architects and building people to progress our refurbishment plans. I will have more answers then about scope and timelines for the work.

Many students have begun wearing Winter uniform. It is still quite warm during the day so for this week wear what is suitable and we'll announce if we are to all go to Winter uniform.

It was great to have our Infants assembly last Friday. Dismissal was made very difficult and distressing for students who were attempting to be collected as usual while some parents made a delayed exit through the gate. I again ask that when the assembly finishes parents exit the property so we can safely dismiss the students. I know this is a new procedure and your immediate cooperation is sought on this.

We still have parents walking their children through the carpark nearest the church. This is extremely unsafe and must stop. As well, the practice of letting children out in the carpark for them to walk unattended through the traffic must stop. Most issues arise close to the bell in the morning when parents are arriving too late and putting their children and others at risk.

Mums - enjoy a marvelous Mothers' Day. You all deserve it!

With appreciation for your ongoing support,

Stephen Dowd

Religious Education Coordinator's Message

On Friday, the 23rd of April, Mary Immaculate celebrated our first whole school Mass back in the sacred space of our Church. With some COVID restrictions easing, it was the first time since March 6, 2020 that we were allowed to sing and dance in praise of our God. It was such a joyous occasion celebrating the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ together as the people of the Body of Christ! Our Kindy children opened the Mass with their beautiful singing and actions, the Primary Dance Club performed an uplifting liturgical movement and our Year 6 Mission Leaders (Jake T, Aleisha B, Allegra G, Brayden M) along with Mrs. Tara George, led the Mass with reverence. The singing and responses of all students was warmly appreciated by our wonderful Parish Priest, Father Oliver.

Sunday the 25th of April was ANZAC Day. During pre-COVID times Mary Immaculate would commemorate this with our local community by attending the 6am Dawn Service at the Riverstone Memorial Cenotaph. This year the Riverstone-Schofields RSL Sub-Branch held a Dawn Service for members only so MIPS held our own commemoration on Monday the 26th. Our Year 6 students led our ceremony which was organised by our Diversity Learning Team (Mrs. Paola Dimataga, Mrs. Alison Shanahan, Mrs. Stephanie Francis and Mrs. Kirsten Cooper). It certainly made an impact on our students and teachers alike.

We very much look forward to the time that we can share these special occasions with our parent community on site.
