Principal's Report

Dear families,

This week I was pleased to meet many parents at the Parent Teacher Interviews. There was a positive vibe in the corridors as families waited to meet their child’s teachers. Of course, I would encourage you to contact the teachers of your child at any time during the term and not wait for that one 15 minute session per semester. Research has consistently shown that strong partnerships between home and school is the single most important factor in a successful education. I will continue to explore better ways St Brigid’s can do this.

Some of our students had the opportunity to participate in the HSSSD Swimming this week. Inter-school sport was one of the things we missed most during 2020 and seeing the sense of community shared as they competed alongside their friends from other schools across the district.  Whilst there was a healthy sense of competition, this was also a time of great celebration. We are now looking forward to our House Athletics this week on Tuesday, 23 March. In the interests of safety, students will only be allowed to leave the venue if collected by a parent or if the College office has been notified by phone. Text messages on the day to your student’s phone will not suffice as we can not verify the origin.

Today I joined the St Mick’s assembly to thank the Grade 4-6 students for their participation in our swimming sports and to distribute enrolment packs to the older children. I have also invited the students to be involved in our Bright Sparks program in Term 2. I would be particularly interested in hearing from families from other primary schools who may be able to assist in distributing the good news and invitations to other schools. If you can help please email me principal@stbc.vic.edu.au .

We offer our prayerful support to the Luciani family on the passing of Anna Luciani, grandmother of Holly (Yr 8). Our prayers and thoughts are with you all.

I hope all families find some time over this long weekend to relax and reflect on the year to date. We are already well into in March and the first term is drawing to an end. I encourage all students to focus on completing the set tasks so that they may be able to enjoy the Easter break. And for those involved in the Fishing competition, tight lines!

Teacher Advisor Schedule

All our students are assigned to a vertical homeroom consisting of students from Years 7 – 12.  Home room groups stay together for their entire school life at St Brigid’s, encouraging leadership, community and familiarity and giving students a real opportunity to know each other and their advisor.  Lifelong friendships are formed where there may not otherwise be the opportunity.

The Teacher Advisor (TA) program is part of the daily life of students. Homerooms meet for 10 minutes each morning, and approximately every six weeks each student meets individually with their Teacher Advisor to discuss and monitor their academic and pastoral progress. A report over viewing the student’s academic achievement and future goals for improvement is formulated from this interview and made available to parents via our online Parent Access Module (PAM).  This regular contact builds trust and strong relationships between students, teachers and families.   It ensures that families and teachers know each student’s strengths and needs and that secure relationships are formed that guide the students along their learning journey.

Our TA Schedule for Term 1 can be found below.

"Midsummer Matters" (School Production News)

Cast Announcement

Welcome to the first edition of ‘Midsummer Matters’ -  a fortnightly newsletter keeping you up to date on our 2021 college production of

~ Midsummer/Jersey ~

From the Producer

Firstly, congratulations to everyone who bravely embraced the Zoom auditions during Lockdown 3.0 and worked on their flexibility skills when technology didn’t quite play the game. I need a resilient cast and resilience is what they have! I am incredibly proud of the cast and I know they are going to work really hard to put together a fabulous show.

Cast members will soon bring home an agreement letter that they need to read and discuss with their families before being formally permitted to participate in the production. Productions are fantastic fun but they are also a significant commitment so chatting about this at home is important. If families or students have any questions or concerns, please email me at vthomas@stbc.vic.edu.au

Rehearsal Schedule

A fortnightly rehearsal schedule will be posted here so that families can stay informed of when their children are required for rehearsals. After school rehearsals will begin later in the term.

The Jersey Journal

Cast members will reveal all the Midsummer/Jersey gossip in a fortnightly video journal RIGHT HERE! Excited? I know I am!

The ‘Joowse’ on ‘Midsummer/Jersey’

Did you know that Midsummer/Jersey is a modern re-make of William Shakespeare’s comedy ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’? Never heard of it? Not to worry! Every fortnight I’ll reveal a little more of the story right here for you so you’ll be a ‘pro’ in no time.

Let’s get started…

The play opens at an assembly at Wildwood High School, New Jersey. Two highly popular and notorious graduates, Mia (played by Murphy Wright) and Lyle (played by Daniel Bell) reveal to the assembly that they are in fact married! The scene then flashes back to six years before when the 17 year olds, Mia and Lyle, seek the help they need from the Governor (James Burton) to get married. The plot gets a little more twisted when another teen, Denis (Ella Officer), shows up claiming that Lyle stole Mia from him. Then, Mia’s friend Helene (Ulani Hobbs) arrives complaining that Mia took Denis away from her! The opening scene ends as Mia and Lyle vow to run away together, and Helene concocts a plan to win Denis’ affections… Will it work? Stay tuned...

Until next time,
