YEAR 6 CAMP

And they’re off!!  It was lovely to see such excitement among our students, to be going off to camp and how lucky have they been with the weather.  Mums and dads cheered and waved as they said goodbye to their child.

They arrived safely and begun activities straight away after making their bed and listening to camp rules.  The flying fox was a great hit, with Shayla Hapke volunteering to go first!  Go Shayla!!  They are having a fantastic time and may not want to come home.  Sorry but they will be coming home!  They may request to have a fireman’s pole put in at home as they are actively giving that a workout!  If they didn’t do the dishes at home, well, now that they have had practise, continue this at home and give yourself a break.  It helps teach them responsibility and to know how to look after themselves in the future.

Only one more sleep and they will be back.  Enjoy some more quieter time, while you can.

All these results are down from last term, so I am very happy with that.  If can see that your child’s year level is high and your child is in that year level, please ring up and provide us with an explanation so we can get them down.  If you receive a letter asking you to provide an explanation for certain dates, please complete this and return it as soon as you can so we can update our system.  Remember it is very easy to reply to a text message when your child is sick and then it’s done and you don’t have to remember later.  In a more detailed analysis:

K      – 9 students

P/P   – 10

Yr 1 – 13

Yr 2 - 13

Yr 3 – 13

Yr 4 – 6

Yr 5 – 15

Yr 6 – 15

The Year 4 parents are continuing to outdo all other year levels.  A huge thank you goes out to them and if those last six people could send in a reason for their child’s absence, you will be at zero!!! I understand we are all busy, however, this area is legally recorded and is accountable to the Education Department. Thank you all for such an improved start to the term and please keep it up.

HEALTH TIPS

A Healthy Lunchbox

Healthy lunches and snacks are important for keeping active kids alert and focused and providing them with the nutrition they need every day.  A healthy lunch box should include:

·         Fruit – at least one serve of fresh seasonal fruit.  If you don’t have fresh fruit, canned (in natural juice) is a good substitute.  Dried fruit is high in sugar and should be avoided

·         Vegetables – vegetable sticks, salads or a mix of raw (with dip) or grilled vegetables

·         Dairy – one serve of milk, yoghurt or cheese supports optimal growth and development in children.  If your child can’t tolerate dairy provide a suitable alternative.

·         Protein – lean meat or poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, legumes/beans, or nuts and seeds.

·         Grain foods – wholegrain and high fibre varieties are best.

·         Water – the best drink to keep children hydrated.

Remember, children who help plan and prepare their own lunch are more likely to eat it.  Your child might like to try out this fun, ‘Interactive Lunchbox’ website: www.goforyourlife.vic.gov.au/hav/articles.nsf/html/index.html
