Christ the King North Rocks Newsletter

Term 4 Week 10: Friday 10th December, 2021.

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

As the final week of the year draws to a close, I would like to thank our parent community for your support and contribution throughout 2021. This year has been a most trying and difficult year for us all to navigate. However as we see the light at the end of the tunnel, may I take this opportunity to thank and congratulate all of you for your patience, resilience and flexibility in working with us throughout the year to insure the education of our students was maintained.  A school’s community is only as effective as their parent body that supports the staff in the education and development of your children. For all your efforts, encouragement and enthusiasm throughout 2021, the staff and I are truly grateful. Your time and generosity is most appreciated. We look forward to your continued support in 2022!

I would like to thank and congratulate the staff at CTK for their continued commitment and ability to adjust to the changing educational environment that have been implemented throughout the year. Their professionalism, patience and the collaborative approach they have undertaken to deliver the curriculum to our students during these trying times is second to none.

We hope you all enjoyed our online Christmas concert today. The children and teachers certainly enjoyed putting it together and performing for you all. Thanks to all the teachers for their organisation of the event. A special thank you to our REC Mrs Wynne who co-ordinated the event and worked with the teachers over the last few weeks to bring the Christmas spirit alive in our community.

Yesterday parents would have received a communication regarding the Diocesan decision to allow students to finish school early due to the numerous outbreaks of COVID across the Diocese and the potential impact it may have on families over the Christmas period. This decision to finish school early will be left up to each individual family. Please be assured that school will remain open for families who choose to have their children remain at school till next Wednesday.

Merry Christmas and a safe and enjoyable holiday to all our CTK families and friends.

See you all next year

Tony Hughes

Christ the King Swimming Carnival

Next Tuesday we will have our Swimming Carnival at Blacktown Aquatic Centre. This is only for students who will be turning 8 or more next year and who have registered. Those students who have not registered will remain at school. Students will need to be dropped off at Blacktown Aquatic Centre by 9:30 am and will need to be picked up at 12:00 from the front of the building.

Students will need to bring their own towel, along with their Sports Uniform over their swimmers. Students will need to bring plenty of water and food to last them their time at the pool. Students are also encouraged to bring something to occupy them when they are not competing (no technology). If you have any questions please contact adebrincat1@parra.catholic.edu.au.

Swimming School 2022

Next year we are proud to announce that we will be having a Swimming Program for all students from K-4. This will be a two week program run every day at Royal Life Saving Seven Hills and run during class time. More information about how this will work will be announced closer to the time.

PBS4L Semester 2 Top 4

To finish off the year, the top 4 token winners from Semester 2 had a day full of Christmas Craft!

Well done to these students for being amazing role models in our school and striving hard to display positive behaviours for learning at all times.

Ally Trethowan

Year 5 Item

In Year Five this term, students have been taking part in an '"Earth and Space Unit," learning about the different elements of Space as well as it's significance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

In recent weeks students have begun preparing a 50/50 model which explores two very different ways space has been viewed. Students have had to use both their critical and creative thinking skills in order to research, design and now build their 50/50 models

We hope you enjoy having a look at some of their great work.

Wakakirri News

We are so disappointed that we were unable to complete our Wakakirri journey this year. We just wanted to say a big thank you to all of the cast members who gave up their lunchtimes for rehearsals and did so without complaint.

We were so close to finishing our amazing production of The Wizard of Oz. It was all so exciting and then we had to stop. We were all devastated!!!

We would also like to give a huge shoutout to the extremely generous mums who had already done so much behind the scenes with sourcing, shopping, sewing and painting. Thank you so much especially to Yue-Lin Trofa, Debbie Nguyen, Rosa Georges and Amy Kitson. Things like Wakakirri rely so much on the generosity of our community members and we are so grateful to have you in our CTK community.

Fingers crossed we will be able to get this production on to a stage in the future.

Executive Director's Summer Reading Challenge

Every student has the opportunity to win a $500 gift voucher from JB HiFi every time they read a book and complete the entry form found on the CEDP website. There are hundreds of books available to read through the eLibrary eBooks collection. Good luck!

Guide to using SORA (eBook platform students have access to) School Subscriptions

All students have access to Reading Eggs, Mathletics or Mathseeds and Primary grades have Britannica, over the school holidays. Why not encourage your children to spend 15 minutes playing on one of these subscriptions before they game. All subscriptions can be accessed from the Holy Faith Library page on the school website.

Please have a thorough check around your home these holidays for any school resources. School library books and home readers are a shared resource and expensive to replace. Any books found should be returned next week or at the beginning of next year.

Remember reading is good for the soul, it builds empathy and resilience through identifying with the characters you meet.

Happy, holy Christmas.

Captain's Chat

Congratulations to the Christ the King community on making it through another two weeks of Term 4. We are only a few days away from the Christmas holidays. We have all had a big year this year and deserve the break.

On Friday Week 9 we had a Year 6 reflection day. The grade spent the day in the hall learning about being grateful for what we have. We even got to meet a seminarian who taught us about his story.

On Monday of Week 10 we all dressed up in Christmas colours to record our Christmas concert. In Year 6 we danced to different songs in groups and then did one big dance. It was a fun experience and a great way to start off the Week.

Finally on Tuesday Week 10 the Year 6 class of 2021 had their graduating mass. It was a wonderful experience. The entire grade and the teachers have done an amazing job this year.

Good job CTK on another two weeks of learning. You have all done so well. We are only 3 days away from the school holidays, so it means we must continue striving to learn and grow. Everyone should be so excited and starting to get into the Christmas spirit.
