Principal's Message - Kim Fraser

What an inspiring school CPS is!

We have had seen so many exciting things happen the last two weeks that our students have been involved in showcasing the superb education CPS offers to every child and the inspiring partnerships with have with others.

Last Wednesday night I was privileged to attend the Rotary Four-Way Junior Speaking Contest with included other district schools. Massive congratulations to Jethro and Matthew who presented such a high quality speech. They displayed confidence beyond their years and their speeches displayed such innovative and critical thinking. I was as proud as their mums and dads!

Our Science/STEAM Week totally engaged the students in numerous amounts of activities provided throughout the week topping it off with an amazing presentation about developing a suitable ecosystem for our frog pond from Dr Bruce Webber, Principal Research Scientist with CSIRO. Dr Webber has been an active partner with CPS supporting student’s growth in Environmental/ecosystems knowledge. We all thank Mrs Reid, Mr J and the team of teachers who did an amazing job with all the fun activities.

To top the week off, we were rewarded with the Athletics Carnival! Super fun for everyone that’s for sure and a brilliant community event. There was such a wonderful display of our four values – respect for our team mates: resilience – just have a go: engage – positively in everything: excel – be proud of what I can achieve. Huge thank you to Mr Marshall for organising and managing this huge event. A very big thank you goes to the P & C/ parent volunteers for the cake stall, this certainly kept everyone sustained for the day!

Don’t forget the Learning Journey Tuesday 7 September. Classes will open at 5 – 6.30. The children are so excited to show you what they have been achieving. The Music, Art rooms will also be open. It is always a great family night and this year the Executive Leadership Team have teamed up with Lions club to put on a sausage sizzle! Come and visit us, Mr J has been practicing his cooking skills in readiness! The sausages will be $2 with the proceeds going to various charities.

Don’t forget to nominate to be part of the School Board! This is a great opportunity to support and grow the school direction and work with an amazing group of parents and teachers. Please see Skoolbag or the last newsletter for detailed information.

Please remember to not bring dogs onto school grounds during school hours. We have an increasing issue with dog faeces on the oval which is really distressing for a child if they stand or sit in it. As a community voice we would greatly appreciate you supporting getting the message out to the community to please take their dogs poos with them (not throw into the gardens).

Staff Spotlight - Mrs Idle

Did you know…....   My first teaching job was in Marble Bar. I taught Year 8-10 my first year. It was very hot and my car was a 1972 Land Cruiser WITHOUT air conditioning!...........

Our family included a beautiful Border Collie called Olly for fourteen and a half years. Sadly, we had to put him down in February this year.  I still miss him...........

I have been an Eagles member since they started playing in 1987. I love them. I was lucky enough to be at the MCG in 2006 when we won the premiership. Happy days!!

Critical and Creative Thinking

This week and next week, students from years three to six will be participating in the CSIRO Bebras Challenge. It challenges the critical and creative thinking skills of our students, by asking them to use their computational thinking skills to solve a variety of problems. Click here to see some past assessments if your child would like to practise or is interested to see what it is all about. Mums and Dads might like to give them a go too as they can be really tricky and quite fun to solve!

2021 Science / STEAM Week

Last week CPS celebrated our annual Science / STEAM week with our theme being Biological Sciences.  We focussed on our local environment, Herdsman Lake and the frog pond.  To see all the activities, read more here.

Scoliosis flyers for Year 6 Students

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine. It can be detected by a simple examination of the back.

The normal spine has three curves – one in the neck, on in the upper back and one in the lower back. These curves can be seen from the side, but when you look from behind the spine should appear straight. If the spine has a sideways curve, this is scoliosis.

An information leaflet about Scoliosis will be distributed to all year 6 students. Please read through the information provided and check your child for scoliosis as described in the leaflet. Any other interested parents can download the attached scoliosis brochures here and here

If you have any concerns, please contact your General Practitioner or Community Health Nurse, Alice Fern on 0404 823 678.

Winter Lost Property

We continue to have an overflowing amount of lost property located in the undercover area. At CPS we are striving for our students to be independent individuals so please continue to encourage your children to take responsibility for their belongings.

We also ask that families clealy label their clothes items so that they can be returned to their owners if found. We have many items that do have recognisable marks on them, however they cannot be clearly linked with current students. It is suggested that labels are clear and up-to-date with your child's name.

Finally, we also have a number of students who cannot find their lost property. It would be extremely helpful if families could have check to see if the items your children are wearing home - are actually theirs.

We thank you for your support with this as we understand how frustrating and expensive losing clothing can be. As there are so many items without homes, we will be having a clean out of the lost property next week where some items that are not claimed will be donated to the CPS Uniform shop for re-sale.
