Toon Kids Animation

This week, Years 3-6 had a fabulous time creating animations using their designed models. The students worked in small groups to create their animation where each student was given a particular role as part of the animation production. The hall was buzzing with excitement and the animations will be shown early next week.

Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be a Learner

Blaxland Public School has high expectations for our students to demonstrate a commitment to doing their best both in and outside of the classroom. We expect our students to interact positively with each other and all class teachers implement a variety of social skills lessons within the classrooms to assist our students in developing positive peer relationships.

Mrs O’Brien’s Wellbeing Program

Throughout the year, Mrs O’Brien has been working with all classes in developing skills to assist all students with their social interactions in the classroom, playground and beyond the school gate. These skills fit well into our PBL, where we are endeavouring to assist our students to be safe, respectful learners.

Our focus K-4 this week is revisiting the need for rules and creating agreed rules to play our games by. Rules which are fair; rules which foster inclusivity; rules which foster good sportsmanship; rules which keep us safe; rules which encourage respect- self-respect and respect for others and equipment and rules which help build resilience. In this week’s sessions the students have viewed “What if everybody did that?” by Ellen Javernick and discussed the need for rules.

Senior students have been viewing and discussing an ABC series “Being Me” throughout the year to encourage them to know themselves, like themselves and be themselves. So far we have explored the themes of identity, happy to be me, belonging, making friends and this week keeping friends. In the upcoming weeks we will look at power and responsibility, changes, and taking risks in our learning and decision making. Our focus is on building confident, resilient, co-operative, thinking students who become effective and successful participants in their environment.

Presentation Day

The School Presentation Day will be on Wednesday 9th December in the School Hall. Due to the COVID-19 guidelines we will not be inviting parent’s onsite but we will be live streaming it so that all parents can access it from home or work. I know that this is not the ideal situation but to be fair to all parents it is the best that we can do in relation to ensuring the strict physical distancing rules for adults. More information will be sent out with the Live Stream link closer to the date.

Kindy Academy

We have now completed our third week of our transition to school program. The 2021 Kindergarten students are having a great time and Mrs Everett and I are enjoying getting to know everyone. This week, the parents received their Take home package, if anyone has a question or needs to seek clarification about something, please feel free to speak with myself or Mrs Everett on your next visit.

School Attendance

If a student is late to school and arrives after the bell, all students must present to the office before going to class to receive a late slip to hand to the class teacher.

Year 6 Fun Day

Year 6 Fun Day will be on Friday 27th November to raise funds for the Year 6 Farewell. A note was sent home last week so that students can pay for their tickets prior to the event. We will not be collecting any money on the day.

Kindergarten Enrolments 2021

We are still taking Kindergarten enrolments for next year. You can find information about enroling your child, enrolment forms and any other documents that are required from the school website.

Kindergarten Orientation

Our School Website now has a Kindergarten 2021 Page with some useful information and resources for parents and our Kindy 2021 students to read and use.

Returning the Enrolment Application

Enrolment applications can be sent by email to the school's email address or dropped into the office, however social distancing rules still apply and we are asking that only one person be in the office foyer at a time. Please contact the office prior to dropping off the forms.

SCOOSH

Not all the children have been eating much fruit of an afternoon lately. This fact and NAIDOC week inspired today's fruit to be served as 'The Rainbow Serpent' along with ANZAC biscuits, that the children helped make yesterday afternoon, for Remembrance Day.

We then watched a video of the Aboriginal Dream time story The Rainbow Serpent. Both plates of food were finished in record time this afternoon.

Will try and come up with other creative ways to attract the children to eating fruit and vegetables and also recipes that they can help make.
