Principal's Report

Welcome to our May edition! What a beautiful, Autumn break we were fortunate to have had. I trust that you managed to find some quality time to spend with your children during the holidays and that they have returned relaxed and rested, ready for an exciting term of learning.

ANZAC Commemorations

On the day after Anzac day, our stage 3 students and teachers visited the war memorial in Munro Park, Cronulla to commemorate ANZAC day.  This was instead of attending the dawn service which was not possible due to the reduced numbers.  Our students were extremely respectful and appreciated the opportunity to participate in this way.

Last week, we held our own ANZAC service at school and reflected on the sacrifice of Australians who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. The spirit of Anzac, with its qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, forms an important part of who we are as Australians.  Deepening our students understanding of this and respect for what has been given for our freedom are valuable lessons.

NAPLAN

Next week, students from Years 3 and 5 will be participating in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy [NAPLAN].  This year the majority of the assessments will once again be conducted in a secure online environment.  Students in Years 3 and 5 will need to remember to bring a set of headphones for the assessments.  The assessments will take place at various times over the next 2 weeks.

We ask that families with students in Year 3 and 5 to avoid planning appointments or holidays in school time over the next two weeks.  If you have any questions, please see your child’s class teacher.

P&C

Our first P&C meeting for Term 2 is on next Monday (10 Ma7) at 7.00pm evening.  Our committee has been working hard to come up with ideas for making the connections between the school and the parent body even stronger.  Why not come along and find out more?  We were hoping to meet together in person this time however, with our covid situation in Sydney still uncertain, we have decided to continue with a zoom format again this time.  To join, just use this link: https://nsweducation.zoom.us/j/63108417879?pwd=M0pxSDRESEFDb01WS0dPaGxyYVg5Zz09

What’s happening in classrooms this term?

In response to requests from our parent body, and in the interest of better and clearer communication, our teaching staff have put together a term overview so you are aware of the learning that will be happening in classrooms.  We plan to continue to communicate this with you at the beginning of each term.  The curriculum grids have been sent out via Skoolbag and are also accessible on our website under ‘Learning at our School’. (click to follow link)

Happy Mother’s Day

This week our students have had an opportunity to purchase a beautiful gift from the P&C Mothers’ Day stall.  The children were so excited about the range of quality gifts available.  Thanks P&C!

We wish all of our Mums, Grandmas and other special ladies a very Happy Mothers’ Day on Sunday.

Citizens of the Week - April

Anzac Day Commemorations

On Monday 26th April, stage 3 students walked to Monro Park to commemorate ANZAC Day and lay a wreath on behalf of our school community. Students met Jenny, an ex-servicewoman, who shared information about ANZAC Day, the cenotaph and the beautiful lone pine that resides in our community garden. Whilst our leaders lay the wreath, the sound of ‘The Last Post’ played by Lucas.D, sounded through the peaceful park.
