KNPS News 2021

Term 1 Week 5

Respect, Responsibility, Resilience

2021 Welcome

Welcome back to Kurrajong North Public School for what will be a very exciting year of learning, student engagement and community involvement.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new students, families and staff. I know you will thoroughly enjoy being a part of the Kurrajong North PS family. I myself have been ever so grateful for the warm welcome, kind words and smiling faces. The warmth and support of our school community is evident each day.

Principal's Message

We have hit the ground running this year with plenty of learning and events. I would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Kurrajong North Public School for their hard work and dedication to the teaching profession and our beautiful school. Our classes have settled into their routines and our 2021 Kindy students have fit right into 'big school'. It is hard to believe that we are entering into the second half of Term 1.

A little about myself

I have been in the teaching profession for the past eighteen years. I have experienced education across a number of settings including schools within the Department of Education, Catholic Education and in the United Kingdom. I have enjoyed a number of roles throughout my career including classroom teacher, Teacher Librarian, Learning and Support teacher, Assistant Principal, Senior Educational Officer working within the Department of Education and Relieving Principal. My most recent experience has been at Grose View Public School where I was appointed as Assistant Principal in 2015.

I have lived in the Hawkesbury for thirteen years and love the serenity and community spirit of this historic town which is nestled on Dyarubbin, the Hawkesbury River. I am a mum with two children, a son and a daughter, who both attend Grose View Public School.

I have very much enjoyed getting to know the students, staff and families at Kurrajong North PS and appreciate the support from the school community.

School Canteen

Our school canteen operates every Friday and it is with thanks to our parent volunteers.  Our new canteen manager is Jennifer Bourne who is new to our school community in 2021. Thank you Jennifer for taking on the role and thank you to the parents who have already offered their time. Please contact the P&C if you are able to assist.

School Zone Safety

Staying safe on Stone Terrace is incredibly important. Please remember that our students use the footpath beside the road to enter and leave the school grounds. It is extremely important that families stay vigilant on this residential road. Please be reminded to use the Kiss and Drop area as a turning bay rather than the driveway near the school gate. We want to keep our students as safe as possible.

COVID Guidelines

Thank you to our parent community for their understanding regarding the COVID guidelines. Just a friendly reminder that all visitors must log in using the QR code and only enter the premises to visit the school office for late arrivals/early departures, to purchase uniforms or to attend pre-scheduled meetings.

Mrs Tamara Hopkins

Relieving Principal

Keep Connected with Kurrajong North PS

We heard your call for more communication between school and home. We want our KNPS families to connect with our school and feel confident in knowing what is happening within the school gates. Here are some of the things we have put in place this year.

CLASS DOJO

Class Dojo is a terrific online platform which enables teachers to share class updates, communicate with parents and develop student e-portfolios. If you haven't already connected to your child's class, make sure you do! Our staff are eager to achieve 100% parent engagement and interaction.

FACEBOOK

'Keep Connected with Kurrajong North' is our weekly update for the week ahead. Typically posted on a Friday, the regular post will ensure that you don't miss a thing. Make sure you Like our Facebook page to receive notifications.

SENTRAL

We are exploring the functionality of our Sentral Parent Portal. Families should have received a unique login code recently to connect. Through this platform we are already utilising the calendar, absence explanations, permission note and we will soon release 3 Way Interview bookings. The school calendar is also available to view on our KNPS website.  If you need any assistance, please contact Mrs Cobcroft.

Farewell Mr Carter

Last week the students and staff formally said farewell to Mr Carter. We congratulate Mr Carter for his recent appointment as Principal at Grose View Public School. We look forward to working alongside our neighbouring school to strengthen student achievement, teacher capacity and community partnerships.

Our students were very excited to see Mr Carter again and asked him loads of questions. They prepared farewell letters, thank you speeches and asked several times... “When are you coming back?”

Mr Carter will be dearly missed but we will always be grateful for the inspiring programs and routines we now have in our classrooms, the big improvements across our playground, and of course his silly dad jokes!

See you again soon Mr Carter.

Celebrating our Super Swimming team

Our Super Swimming team has been the talk of the town across the Hawkesbury. We are very proud of all of our students. Not only were they well behaved and humble about their achievements, our students were all so supportive of one another with every lap they completed. We congratulated all of our swimmers with the presentation of their ribbons and their Age Champion trophies for both our swimming carnival and the Small Schools swimming carnival. A special congratulations goes to:
