Panania North Public School

Newsletter 1 - 5th February 2021

Principal's Message

Panania North staff would like to welcome back all of our students and their families and extend a very warm welcome to our many new students who have joined our very special school this year.

Our 2020 transition program has had a very positive impact on our start to the year. Our students were in their 2021 classes and engaged in learning by 9.10am on our first day back. Our Kindergarten students have also settled smoothly into big school and engaged in learning.

The beginning of the year is an important time to develop independence and clear expectations for our students. We thank you for reinforcing the expectation that students are responsible for their learning and belongings. You can help each day by encouraging your children to carry their school bag, bring their lunchbox home from school and take it out of their bag; and say goodbye to you at the gate so they can carry their bag to their class. All these actions send a strong message to our little learners that when at school, they have responsibilities but their teachers are able to help if needed.

This first newsletter is sent home in hard copy to ensure all parents have the information to access our communication apps. The next newsletter will distributed via Skoolbag, Class Dojo and placed on our school website.

Communication with our families

Our newsletters will be distributed each fortnight, on a Friday.

Newsletters will be available on our Skoolbag App, Class Dojo App and via a link on our School Website.

Events, notes and information will also be available on both Skoolbag and our School Website.

Class Dojo will be used for parent/teacher communication.

Instructions on how to download and access communication apps will be attached to this newsletter.

COVID-19 – Updated School Procedures Term 1

Schools have been provided with updated COVID guidelines. Many of them remain the same as the end of 2020. Please see the following updated procedures for our school:

QR Code

All adults who enter the school are required to sign-in using the COVID Safe Check-in QR Code located at the front gate.

Morning Drop-Off

Kindergarten: Parents may enter through the front gate and ‘drop and go’ in the playground.

Parents are asked to leave the site as soon as their child is settled.

Years 1 – 6: Parents are asked to ‘kiss and drop’ at the gates.

Afternoon Pick Ups

K- 2 Parents/carers may enter the school grounds through the front gate after 2: 50pm each afternoon and socially distance on the main asphalt and netball court area.

Parents are asked not to enter or leave through the side gates at Wall Avenue and Mae Crescent.

Please leave the site as soon as you have your child/ren. Students should not be playing in the playground or on play equipment after the school bell.

For the safety of our students, the gates will be closed at 9.05am each morning and opened at 2.45pm in the afternoon. All visitors must sign in at the office if entering the school between 9.00 - 2.45pm.

Just a reminder that students should not be onsite before 8.30am as there is no supervision at Panania North Public School until 8.30am.

Teacher Meetings

If you need to meet with your child’s teacher, please contact your teacher through Class Dojo, call the school or send an email to make an appointment. If needed, meetings can occur face-to-face, however, these need to be planned and parents/carers will be required to complete a COVID acknowledgment form at the front office in addition to using the school’s QR code.

Voluntary School Contributions

In light of the financial hardships experienced by families due to COVID-19, bushfires and drought all student learning resources will be funded by the school.

At Panania North we believe and are committed to ensuring:

·       all students have access to the total school curriculum

·       no student  be denied the opportunity to meet syllabus requirements because of the non-payment of voluntary school contributions

·       no parent feels overstretched in any way to contribute to additional resourcing

·       that no student or family suffers discrimination or embarrassment regarding voluntary school contributions and maintain confidentiality in dealing with these matters.

Next week we will be sending home more information on how you can make a voluntary contribution. These contributions go directly towards enabling us to purchase non-essential resources that will enhance your child's learning experiences at school.

Assembly update

Assemblies will continue to be held online for students until restrictions change.

Each class will have the responsibility for coordinating an assembly and showcasing their work.

We are currently investigating better ways or sharing our assemblies with our community.

Purchasing of School Uniforms

The Panania North Uniform Shop is the sole authorised provider of our school uniforms.

The P&C Uniform Shop is run by volunteers to ensure parents are provided with the correct high quality garments, keep prices as low as possible and enable any profit to be given the school to enhance our student's resources and opportunities.

The school has not given permission for any other outlets to provide our school uniform.

SRE/SEE

SRE and SEE is anticipated to commence in week 4, Thursday 18th February, 2021 for all K-6 students.

We are still waiting on confirmation from some teachers so there is a chance it will begin in week 5, Thursday 25th February, 2021.

Your child will attend the SRE or SEE class that you have nominated.

Canteen

Welcome back to school!

Flexischools is up and running for online ordering - www.flexischools.com.au - to register.

We have had to change our procedures regarding our credit system, for forgotten, replaced or phone orders. These will now all be 'pink slip' sandwiches only, small water and/or $1 counter item.

Outstanding monies will need to be paid the next day. We apologise for having to make these changes.

If you wish to put money on an account for your child/ren please feel free to do so at the canteen and we will deduct as required. Speak to us, we can set limits spent per day and limit what can be purchased.

We're looking forward to a wonderful year.

You can call the school and ask for the canteen to say hi or speak to us if you have any concerns, questions or suggestions.

Thank you,

Di & Jackie
