Term 1 Week 10 - 1 April 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Term 1 Ends

Our first 10 weeks of the school year are coming to an end. Students will finish this Thursday 1st April 2021. Term 2 will commence for all students on Tuesday 20th April 2021. Staff will be at school on the Monday participating in professional learning.

Pevensey Street Kiss and Drop Zone

Please be aware that our Kiss and Drop zone along Pevensey Street has been extended. Cars cannot park there and can only remain for a short period of time to collect students. Do not turn off your car engine or leave your vehicle in this area during the times 8:00-9:30am and 2:30-4:00pm.

Road Safety

It has been brought to our attention that some students, with and without parents, may be crossing the road at the refugee islands on Sackville Street. This can be very dangerous. Please talk with your children about crossing at the pedestrian crossings and at the lights. Our teachers regularly discuss road safety and pedestrian safety with our students. This issue will be discussed at our P&C meeting on Wednesday 28th April.

State Swimming Carnival

Congratulations Chloe on your participation at the State Swimming Carnival on Tuesday. We are very proud of your efforts at such a high level.

School Photos

All class and individual photos have now been taken for this year. The photographers will work to print and package them ready to be delivered next term. We will let you know when they are due to arrive at school for distribution.

Parents Picking Up Students During the Day for Appointments

At different times students may need to be picked up early during the day to attend an appointment. Parents and carers often know this in advance. If you do need to pick up your child early from school it is best to send a note with your child to the class teacher in the morning so your child will be ready to leave at the time you will need to collect them. It is also best to come before 1pm or after 1:50pm. Coming to school during our breaks (recess 10:50-11:10 & lunch 1:00 – 1:50pm) to collect your child makes it almost impossible to locate them in the playground using the external speakers when there are 900 students playing in the playground.

Opportunity Class Applications

Year 4 students have been given information about Opportunity Class applications yesterday. The applications will be open on Tuesday 20th April and will close on Friday 7th May 2021. For more information about Opportunity Classes for 2022 and applications please visit:

https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5

Applications can only be made online. A Kiosk will be operating at school early next term to assist parents with the process if they require it.

Payments for Excursions or PSSA

A friendly reminder to parents and carers when making payments for excursions and PSSA: can you please include the correct money in envelopes as we are unable to provide change. The office does not keep cash on the school premises; we bank daily.

K-2 Easter Hat Parade

Parents and carers are welcome to attend our K-2 Easter Hat Parade on Thursday 1st April from 9:00-10:00am. All visitors must sit on the designated seats and scan the QR Code on arrival. At the end of the Easter Hat Parade we ask that all visitors vacate the school grounds through either the Canley Vale Rd or Pevensey St gates.

Khmer New Year Celebrations

We will celebrate Khmer New Year on our final day of the term, just before our K-2 Easter Hat Parade. Dr Ly, along with Mrs Ly have been busy ensuring we are marking this occasion in our community. Students and staff are welcome to wear national dress to celebrate.

Medical Reports and Assessments

If your child has visited a doctor or specialist and is given an updated specialist report regarding an allergy, medical condition or disability can you please ensure a copy is given to the school. If it a new report and the school is unaware it would be beneficial if you call or email the school to make an appointment to speak with the class teacher or Assistant Principal or Deputy Principal or Principal. So you are aware of which staff that you can speak with, I have listed a chart that outlines Executive staff and their grade responsibilities.
