Dear Parents and Carers

Out with a splash!

Well, what a fabulous last Monday of term our Tropical Splash Waterslide and Scotts Head Film Festival day was for all our students to end the year. During the morning each class eagerly slid, climbed, bounced, raced, sponged and munched dangling krupuk with such enthusiasm and joy all beautifully captured in the action-packed pictures below.

After lunch the whole school gathered in our outdoor theatre (under the cola) to collectively watch the line-up of movies each class, peer group and small groups had created and submitted. Every film held the whole school audience absolutely captivated for over an hour. Through the lens of digital storytelling students worked together developing communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills among many others, the talent witnessed was quite incredible. Congratulations to all the entrants and winners. This event was possible due to the outstanding contribution by Pak Chris and his film making expertise, patience and perseverance in generating the Film Festival from concept to compilation. The positive benefit of this creative process has everyone keen for the 2022 Film Fest!

Celebration of Learning Presentation morning

What a revelry of student progress and acknowledgement of achievement last Wednesday when we welcomed parents and carers into the school for our student led Celebration of Learning Presentation morning. Our cola area was alive with emotion and absolute pride towards all our hardworking staff and students.

The school rock band performed the most dynamic opening song. Well done Lucas, Jessie, Tex and Xie. A fantastic and moving performance of “Lanterns” performed by Ashlyn and Cohen as a duo while the school sang along. These musicians must all be acknowledged for their outstanding, courageous performances.

Good Luck Year 6

I wish all of our Year 6 students good luck on their journey into high school and beyond knowing they have developed the capacity to meet challenges head on and reach for the stars. We will celebrate all of Year 6 in style with family members at the Year 6 Farewell on Thursday night at Club Scotts.

Farewell Bu Bettina

Bu Bettina our very own Mary Poppins/Pirate who landed six years ago at SHPS. Bu Bettina has contributed a wealth of diverse experiences and effective practices in early childhood education which have enriched and strengthened all our students. This positive impact is most evident in our smallest students having the biggest success. Our rich transition to school program “Little Whales” is now embedded into the orientation of students into SHPS. Although Kindergarten students aren’t all Bu Bettina has wrangled here at SHPS, there’s chooks, roosters, rounding up Spring Fair community spirit, buddies beach excursions, building significant relationships with families and clocking up a world record of the most time spent dancing with the whole school. So, like Mary Poppins her time here has come to an end and she will be greatly missed. We are all the better for her wisdom and time. Good luck Bu Bettina and we wish you all the best on your new adventures.

2022 Our Shared Window of Certainty

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our dedicated staff, students and school community. Learning together through 2021 has been a demonstration of persistence and adaption to many changes but we have navigated our Scotts Head Public School ship as a community to support each other, build resilience and adaptability every day.

2022 promises us the opportunity to begin reconnecting as a whole school community, opening our window of certainty, looking forward through shared vision, values and beliefs. Realigning together our school parents, carers, and community with a deep sense of purpose and positivity. Empowering students through our shared values to promote the dynamic culture that is uniquely Scotts Head Public School.

Have a safe and happy holidays, and we look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year.

Short Film Festival

Our 2nd annual Short Film Festival was another smashing success. It was a marvellous celebration of our students' creativity, perseverance, and teamwork. Congratulations to Class 4/5 for taking out the Best Film award. Also Congratulations to Emily, Ryder and Cohen for picking up the three Best Performers awards. The trio have won movie passes, thanks to Majestic Cinemas.

National Indonesian Awards

Scotts Head was highly represented at the NAILA awards ceremony on Friday 3 Dec. We had a lovely little celebration at school with our amazing Indonesian team and the families of our two student award winners, Emily Sant and Jak Moc. Emily and Jak received 2nd and 3rd place for the Early Primary Speech category, up against students from all around Australia! On top of this wonderful outcome for our students, there were two other prize winners in our team: Excellence in Teaching was awarded to Bu Bibi Ahmed (former Indonesian bi-lingual teacher at SHPS) and Cultural Leadership was awarded to Bu Alfira O’Sullivan (Damai’s mum and Artistic Director of Suara Indonesia Dance).

We are so fortunate to have these two women in our local community, both who are highly regarded for their contributions to and promotion of Indonesian language and culture in Australia. The evening was a great occasion to celebrate together, with Indo food a plenty while we watched the awards and listened to speeches from various dignitaries, politicians and academics who excel in the field of Indonesian studies and cultural leadership. A huge congratulations to all our winners and the team behind the scenes! Bagus!!
