Term 2 Week 1: Monday 19th April 2021

Principal's Message

Welcome back everyone to Term Two!

So much happened last term and not all of it was good. The floods affected so many and again isolated members of our local community, particularly here close to the Hawkesbury area. Again we saw the best characteristics and values of our people come to the fore. We applaud all those volunteers and service personnel who put themselves in harms way for the safety and benefit of others. They challenge us to be the best we also can be!

Our new term will present new opportunities of partially returning some elements of school to pre-covid times. But we will need to make appropriate adjustments. For example, this Friday we will recommence Friday assemblies. However, to limit previous crowding in the MPA we will trial having a Primary assembly one week and an Infants assembly the following week. This will allow our parents to join us! This Friday, Year 6 will host the assembly and Week 2  Friday will be hosted by Year 2. Assembles will continue to be held starting at 2:45pm. We hope we won’t have to limit the numbers of parents. The roster for the rest of the term assemblies will then be shared.

Like today with the tremendous Cross Country we held, we will continue to look for appropriate occasions to get together as a community. Student-led Conferences will also be such an opportunity later this term. Please remember that if you need to speak to your child’s teacher at any time, contact the school office so we can assist with arranging this.

With appreciation for your ongoing support,

Stephen Dowd

NRL Visit

On Friday 26th March, students in grades 3-6 participated in a workshop delivered by NRL Education Officer Christina T. Christina spoke to students about respect and teamwork before taking them out for skill development games. Thankfully we had wonderful weather, so that students were able to enjoy participating in the sessions.

Here are some pics from the day.

Bullying No Way

Our Year 3 students would like to share tips with their peers about what they would do when it comes to bullying.

Halogen Leaders Day Reflection

On Thursday 25th, March the Year 6 Leadership Team attended the Halogen National Young Leaders Day in Darling Harbour, Sydney. The aim of the conference is to inspire students to lead. The leaders heard from many inspiring leaders during the day these included Lachie Smart (Youngest Pilot to fly solo around the world), Anastasia Woolmer (Two time Australian Memory Champion) , Jimmy “Giggle” Reed (Longtime host of ‘Giggle and Hoot’) and David Campbell (Entertainer, TV host and author)

Here are some of the messages that inspired our Student Leaders.

When I went to the Halogens Leader day I learnt that being persistent and consistent is important especially with the things you love and to  always learn from the failures you do which can then lead to success. Hannah K

I was inspired by the quote Anastasia Woolmer stated, “Never give up on your dreams and always work hard and especially work smart.” I also liked the inspirational quote Jimmy Giggle stated, “Never hide something you want to do.” Nevin P

I learnt that setbacks are the foundations to success - don’t give up on your ambition, always persevere (from Lachie Smart).

I learnt that different people learn differently, and that working hard works (from Anastasia Woolmer).

I learnt that, by being yourself anyone can be a leader and a role model (from Jimmy Rees).

I learnt that you should follow your ambitions and be yourself, and that we shouldn’t be afraid to take on challenges or have a go (from David Campbell).  Aarya K

What I learnt from my experience at the Halogen National Young Leaders Day is that young people can achieve big things, never give up on your hopes and dreams, hard work actually works, always work harder and smarter, make your dreams a reality and to always take new opportunities.  Anna R

I learnt from the first presenter Lachie Smart that “we as young people can do amazing things”.  Nihal G

I was inspired when all of the speakers had told us during their presentations to ‘never be afraid to dream big’ . Gurekum D

“According to David Campbell, I learnt that we should always go after our dreams and we shouldn’t change that because there would be too much confusion.”  Shaurya T

The quote I picked up is that you don’t have to be someone else to succeed you can always just be yourself and follow your dreams . Jake T

The lessons I picked up was to never doubt yourself no matter what and you should always be confident in yourself and never give up in life. Life is hard but don’t let it get to you. Just because you are in a bad place it doesn’t mean you have to keep it with you. “Setbacks are the foundation to success.” Lachy. This means mistakes are good so you can learn from it. The best one was the most simplest “FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS” Jimmy Rees said.  Levi Fenech

When I was listening to the speakers I learnt that I myself can do anything I want. David Campbell said “You can FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS!” And that is what made me realise that I can do whatever I feel like but it’s as long as I try. I was also inspired by a quote from Lauchy Smart “Setbacks are not bad if you learn from them” So now I know what to do when I make a mistake and that is to learn from it.  Ryan C

When I was at the young Halogens leaders day I learnt that it is always good to follow your dreams and never give up. The thing I learnt that you should never give up because if you keep trying you will eventually reach success. Zoe P
